Gosselin: Cowboys lose on the field, but win the battle that really matters

With the philosophy they had though, Romo should not have bothered to play a down if he was going to throw 1 screen pass.

I am not sure. There is something about preparing for the game and going through warmups and going out for a possession. It probably isn't much but it probably doesn't hurt to go through the process fully of game preparation and taking a few snaps from center.

Putting a bad product on the field during the preseason teaches what? These games are meaningless and so I never pay attention to the final scores. I laugh at the preseason champions like the Vikings and Commanders that think it matters. Iggles are kicking butt in the preseason, is anyone worried about it? I'm not.

That's a lame comparison. You get hurt in this game whether you're kicking butt, or getting yours kicked. Why bother playing then? La'el Collins & several of the younger players took their jobs seriously, & THAT'S how you make a team. When your O-linemen play like crap, (Wetzel, Bernadeau, & Weems come to mind), then it puts your QBs at greater risk of getting hurt. Play 100 MPH with your hair on fire every time you're on the field, I say.

I was commenting on the fact that another player has lost his season because somebody evidently thinks he needs to play in a preseason game (be a man), not your lamentations over the debacle of last night. Sorry. Garrett is handling the preseason great in my humble opinion. Let the starters sit.

I agree that you should play hard if you play. I'm just not sure I think those offensive players were loafing. I think some of them just suck, and the sum of their inability (mainly to throw the ball and block) made the offense look lifeless. I definitely wouldn't say the defensive guys lacked pride in their work. Kick coverage, though, there's absolutely no excuse. That's all effort.

They did it last year also and it worked pretty well.

There was a different fire in the team last year, Yes we lost all our preseason games, But in no way did we ever look this lackadaisical. We did look like this in 2010 though.

That's not true, at all. This time last year people were freaking out about the DL. Our defense was simplistic and the HC was an idiot and our starters on offense couldn't score TDs. Fans were predicting 5-11 finishes as the high-water mark in some cases, and Tony Romo was done because of his back injury. The sky was falling then in almost the exact way it was falling last night.

Meanwhile, nobody got hurt, and we're still deep and going to be a good team in 2015.

Do you think the plan pre-game was Romo to throw one screen pass?
Just curious

The only question I have is, why even go out there in the first place & risk injury if you're just going through the motions. There were some good individual things I saw from a handful of players, but I would be ashamed to get dominated so completely, no matter if the game matters in the regular season or not. There's a thing called pride & manhood, & the 49ers were the only ones that understood that last night.

Who do you think will be more proud by the end of the season, the Cowboys or the Niners?

I'm still looking for the Cheerleader pictures...

We tried this same strategy back in 2010 after losing to the Vikings in the divisional round of the playoffs. How'd that work out for us? Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

It worked well last year.

It depends of if our starting tackles stay healthy. If one goes down, I pray La'el Collins can fill in, because Weems & Wetzel played horribly, and are a danger to our QBs. Besides, which team do you think felt better about themselves after the game? Losing is one thing, being totally dominated by a team that has lost several Pro-Bowl players is another. -4 yards of total offense after 4 possessions. That doesn't make me feel very good about our depth right now.

I can't believe Cowboys fans are freaking out over preseason.

(In my best Allen Iverson voice) ... "we in here talking about preseason. I mean, listen, we're talking about preseason, not a regular season game, not a regular season game, not a regular season game, we talking about preseason. Not a regular season game. Not, not … Not the regular season game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last. Not the regular season game, but we're talking about preseason, man. I mean, how silly is that? … And we talking about preseason. ... I know it's important, I do. I honestly do... But we're talking about preseason man. What are we talking about? Preseason? We're talking about preseason, man."
