Round 5 Dallas Cowboys select Marcus Vick to return kicks and take Romo's job.

I can't rate this draft. We will find out how good it is this upcoming season. Remember that draft in 2003 (I think). Everyone was thrilled with Roy Williams, Antonio Byrant, Andre Gurode, and Derek Ross. Dallas got A+++ across the board. Years later, that was one of the worse drafts ever. AB and Ross turned into a turds and Gurode is about as smart as a box of rocks. Only time will tell.

C, from the draft I guess we have holes to fill us armchair warriors don't realize. Until it falls flat I like this draft.

And that's a small box of small rocks.

We pick 28th or near the bottom of the 4th round. I'm kind of worried that guys like Watkins, Simpson, Lowry, G. Watson, WR's M. Nance and D. Williams etc. will have been snapped up by then.

Carpenter was ok, but after him, I just don't see "why" he took who we took. So far...compared to last year's draft, I think we took a major step backwards.

Carpenter = A
Fasano = B (although my immediate reaction was a D. Metal plate in back is still a concern.)
Hatcher = F-

Average = C

Ko Simpson better fall to us in the 4th. :mad:

I called D, possible should have gone C because our 2nd and 3rd aren't bad players, just unneeded players. And we got extra picks for tomorrow.

But good players or not, Fasano and Hatcher make no sense when you have other positions with need and quality players on the board to fill those positions.

Fasano - I don't like it because I don't like this offensive theory that we are going to throw 2 TEs out EVERY play. That's rubbish. That's like saying I am going to run a double backfield EVERY play - which you ought not to do. Mix in some slot WRs (Crayton), sometimes a FB can be a good thing, sometimes you should spread the field with 4-5 WRs. With Fasano and this philosophy, we are cutting down to less formations. I've never been a fan of Bill's offensive philosophy and now I seriously question it.

Hatcher - Don't know much about him, whether we will keep him at end or LBer, but regardless, we have so many LBers that I have to think we could have found another position for depth or a possible starter. With this guy, it is almost a no-brainer that he will be a STer and backup here. Who is he going to beat out? Ware, Carpenter, Burnett, etc?! If he stays at end, is he going to supplant Spears, Ellis or Canty?

We can still recover tomorrow - the additional picks are a bonus, and if we felt high on these guys, maybe we have some values identified in other areas.

But with our needs at OL and FS, and with quality players still there (especially at OL in the 2nd), I can't see how we helped ourselves today.

Last year we went into the draft looking for as many starters as possible - I get the feeling our philosophy changed this year.

You are right we have one starter and I tell you what if we trade Witten or get rid of him after this year, there is no justice in the world!

He gives us 2 pro bowls and then you draft his replacement?

I find it hilarious that people are giving Hatcher an F- and they have never even seen him play.

Solid B. Drafting BPA and for the future isn't sexy or flashy just produced solid football players. Ireland and JJ really set the record straight and clearly are build a very solid roster. Anyone who doubts any of our picks should try to listen to them tomorrow.

C for Hatcher, D over all, what was Bill thinking in the second and third rounds. Day one did not seem either fill needs or get BPA to me. Especially when I saw who was passed over and who we made no attempt to get. Manster you are right I never saw Hatcher play. But I did see the people the Iggles took and the players the Chargers took and I wondered why them and not us. We have a second next year and two more second day picks this draft. It reminds me of the year when we traded out of the first and then started reaching for position picks becuase Jerry in his infinite wisdom decided all we needed were back ups. Whoopie.

Yeah, taking into consideration the evaluation of talent scouts who says he should make a pit stop in NFLE, what do those guys know anyways? :rolleyes:

Word is he's a very raw and possibly overvalued player, and his position is one that already has both starters and depth, something we sorely lack in other areas. We currently have what amounts to an aging band-aid player at FS and ongoing legitimate concerns about our OL, which by the way was our biggest weakness last year. I'm not even going into the other lesser needs that we have.

So yeah, F-.

Edit: also, I have to admit that seeing Ko Simpson passed up a total of FOUR times in the 2nd and 3rd rounds through both trades and picks, only to get a players at positions not even considered to be among our greater needs, made my blood boil. I understand the TE decision a bit better now, but I'm still at a loss when it comes to Hatcher.

If Jerry were still running the draft, then I think a lot of these arguments would be valid. However, Parcells and Ireland are running this draft, and I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. FWIW, I thought Carpenter played an incredible game against UT this year.

You want to take the word of some talent evaluator that can't get a job with an NFL team over Gosselin who intreviews employed scouts to come up with his rankings, that's cool with me. I'll go with the guys that have NFL jobs.

I give it a C

Carpenter was a good pick and filled a big need. He really brought the overall grade up. Hatcher was a C pick since it is a position that we are already deep at and he is very raw. The 2nd round TE pick was a complete waste of a perfectly good draft pick and this drags the grade down to a C even with the Carpenter pick.

Larry Lacewell had an NFL job. Did you accept his word as the word of christ?
