Grade our first round!

I always keep an eye on the mock drafts after the season to brush me up, basically crib notes, on the top of the draft.

Then about a month before the draft I kinda start watching videos on who we might get. By the week before I'm basically Mel Kiper. Lol.
Lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol that's funny!!! That guy's been doing it for so long!!! It's funny when the draft doesn't go the way he thought it would

I agree... The only reason I (myself) give an A- rather than an A is because (granted the Dolphins needed major help on both sides of the ball) I think the Cowboys could have gotten Caleb Downs at 12 anyways. I was watching very closely when it came around the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th spots and when it came time for the Dolphins (had they stayed where they were) I kept saying to myself "I think the Dolphins are going to go offense to start." and sure enough they did. That's my only complaint (and it's really not even a complaint). They did great... I'm very happy with the pick....

I gave it A- , right after the second pick
But I’m not sure we could’ve held off and still got, Lawrence

A+, whenever you get the best player in the draft at 11, it is a homerun. Lawrence is another Ez where both could develop into high level, edge rushers after development.

2 areas of need addressed so the only early debate would be draft position. Who knows if they can both play at the NFL level?

If both men become starters and play at a high level its a big win.

But make no mistake that this defense will continue to have issues because of the other holes left on defense.

Going from 30th ranked defense to top 15 is a slog even for the best of GMs.....and we dont have one of them.

A-, don't know if the trade up was completely neccisarry. Dodgeball referance.
Not just you but wondering why people don't like the trade up?

Any team behind us could of jumped us, and it has happened before. Us offering two 5th round comp picks to swap with them guaranteed no one would trade with Miami and take our guy.
Do you know how much different Cowboys nation would be feeling this morning had some other team who wanted Downs jumped us and got him? Oh the house would of came down!!!
Wiyh the later schwindling of the Eagles basically made it a two 5ths for two 4th round picks swap.

Lol lol lol lol lol man you said that perfectly!! The expectations are high and we want them to do well, but will they be ready, do we have enough talent assembled to be better than last year

Beyond any doubt. How much better is the real question

Not how it works. Other teams were jockeying to trade up for Downs. If we don't trade up, we don't get Downs. No more complicated.

I’m honestly torn. If you look at the draft as a concensus, we got a home run in Downs. I doubt he will be a bust and he is a relatively safe pick with high upside. So if you look at it that way it’s an. A+ draft just based on Downs alone.

Lawrence, the team obviously liked. I predicted that the Cowboys would take. DE early, even forcing the pick, if necessary. Based on the concensus board Lawrence was picked about 20 picks too early.

I think the Cowboys could have traded down a little again and still got Lawrence, but I think all of the DEs will be drafted a bit earlier than expected so I understand.

The opposite side of this coin is that the Cowboys need numbers. Trading down was super enticing. Would be interested to know if they had a trade down offer at 12 or 23.

The bright side of this is that Jerry didn’t panic and trade WAY up. Credit to him for that.

I also believe that Parker is putting his prints on this defense and that’s got to be an improvement over what we have had. I’m willing to give the Cowboys the benefit of the doubt. Interested to see what happens the rest of this draft.

Need linebackers.
Doubtful. Mala was climbing the boards, he might've been gone soon.

The good thing is that he has great upside. He actually could turn out to be the best pass rusher in this draft.

I don't know about a grade because I'm not really a college football guy.
That being sad I'm happy this morning.
Although I wish we still had our 2nd rd pick for tonight.
So, you want to give Q back?

Too early to tell. None have played a single NFL game yet.
Not really. Draft grades are simply a matter of evaluating skillsets and college play and projecting how a player will fit into the NFL.

Miami must of called them and said we are taking Downs but willing to give it up for a trade.
More likely MIA said other teams are trying to trade ahead of you, what you offering to trade up?

in my opinion the two best players in the draft were...
offense:jeremiyah love
defense:caleb downs
we walk out of rd1 with one of them.
A.

The problem is that almost all the other teams have arguably improved their rosters as well on both sides of the ball.

The elephant in the room that refuses to leave is that the FO let our defensive roster get so catastrophic.

The quickest way to turn that around is to be extremely aggressive in FA and this GM doesn't do that.....ergo the huge void at LB corp.

The draft is essential of course but its only 1 part of the solution and its the weaker part because the results are UNKNOWN.
