I like Mazi alot. He fills a glaring hole and has superstar potential. The ceiling is high, worst case, we've improved the weakness of an otherwise dynamic defense. Favorite pick of the draft.
Overshown is an impressive player. As others have said, it looks like he will fit into the role we see Kearse playing. Looks good in coverage, and is ferocious when he has a line on the ball carrier. Tough, hard-nosed player that brings the heat. Nice selection, but I would've considered OG or RB at that spot.
I knew nothing of Fehoko when the pick was made. ESPN had him ranked in the 200's and passing up a RB and OG again in the 4th really ticked me off...so naturally I hated the pick initially. After reading up on him and watching a bit of film, I've changed my stance. At 278, he's projected at 3T. I like this idea, because when you watch his film, his power and quickness for a guy his size jumps off of the screen. I don't see an explosive rusher from the edge, buy he has a nice initial burst, good balance, a strong base, and a good nose for the ball. He's already built thick, and I think he can add another 20 lbs without compromising his athleticism. Could give Osa a run for his money for that starting 3t spot next season, nice jack of all trades along the line this year. Solid pick.
I'm not sure how Deuce Vaughn's game translates to the NFL, but he sure was fun to watch in college. Explosive and quick, plays faster than his timed 40, will make alot of defenders look silly. Listed at 5'5 179lbs, so durability is a big concern in the NFL. Will be playing in a platoon with Pollard, Jones, and maybe Davis which limits those concerns. Reminds be a bit of Quentin Griffin out of Oklahoma many years ago, but not as thick. Griffin showed flashes with Denver, but his body wore out before he could establish himself. If utilized properly, Vaughn can be a difference maker, but I don't think we will see him in a lead role in the NFL. Considering the state of the RB position, I like the pick in the 6th, but would've liked to see the position addressed sooner.
I'll have a look at the other guys over the next couple of days, but so far I'm seeing some tough, hard-nosed players that improve the team. I'm seeing a team that is allocating assets to build an elite defense, and I love it. Hopefully the Cooks trade moves the needle enough to fix the struggles we saw against SF. I think it will. Factoring in the picks traded for Cooks, Gilmore, and Hankins, and based on what I've seen from the selections so far, I'm comfortable giving this draft a B+, possibly A-.
