Clemson DT Grady Jarrett is "damn good" and "just might be worth a first-round pick" CBS Sports' Pete Prisco.
We agree. "I know [Vic] Beasley gets a lot of hype, and might be a top-10 pick, but [Grady] Jarrett was the better player in some of the games I watched," Prisco wrote. "He is quick off the ball, which helps him compensate for his lack of size. In the games I watched, the offensive linemen had a tough time handling him -- even when he was doubled. His penetration was a big problem for collegeoffensive linemen." The analyst compares him to Geno Atkins. The 6-foot-1, 304-pound Jarrett is the son of former NFL linebacker Jessie Tuggle. I am quickly warming up to this guy in this scheme. Good blood lines too.

I like the player but I think it's become pretty apparent that we aren't looking at any DT's in this draft....at least definitely not in the early rounds

I'd take him in the second. I think he's going to be a fantastic rush lineman.

How do you over look inner pocket pressure in any scheme?

When you can play with those dimensions it actually helps you in some cases. You have a lower center of gravity. It's hard for the offensive lineman to win the leverage battle.

Don't ask me lol...I'm with you. I think we should definitely be grabbing a DT somewhere between rounds 2-4. But given the fact that the only DT we've been in contact with is a 7th/UDFA guy from TCU on Dallas Day I think it's pretty clear the front office/coaching staff doesn't feel the same way we do.

I don't know how the FO can look at the roster and say they don't need talent infusion on the dline, its so frustrating to see them ignore the DT position completely in recent years.

People are putting too much stock in reported visits. It was just a few short years ago we traded our top two picks to move up for a player we didn't visit with.

Lord help us if our front office looks at our DT depth chart and goes "yeah, we're good".

It all depends on how you feel about Brent I guess....If you think he can be a solid 1 tech for 20-25 plays a game we really don't need that much at DT. We only have Chris Whaley or Jack Crawford as our potential backup 3 tech's, but there is always Hardy to get snaps there as well. Too much risk for me, but if the coaching staff believes in Brent and Whaley I can see why we wouldn't be drafting a DT early. Don't totally agree with it...but I can at least see some rationalization behind it.

I guess now is the time of year we find out what teams actually think of players.

Was around this time that Ware went from mid second rounder to possibly as high as #7.

Love the draft

DTs on roster (need 4 for game day):
Crawford, Tyrone
McClain, Terrell
Brent, Josh
Bishop, Ken
Whaley, Chris
Coleman, Davon
Hayden, Nick

Players that have taken snaps at DT:
Crawford, Jack
Boatright, Kenneth
Hardy, Greg
Mincey, Jeremy

Look at the last two drafts when everyone and their mama was saying the Cowboys needed to draft Dline.

We took Bishop in the 7th round. Now I like bishop and was happy to get him...however two years where everyone is calling for DT...nope.
So far the visits line up with the us not thinking about it in the top end.

I fear the team just devalues Dt. I think it'll take a fluke, ala Frederick, until they actually invest the resources

It would be unwise for us to ignore the DT position IMO. He is a prospect that I would give consideration to in the third. I personally like Xavier Cooper far more. I'm all for spending a high draft pick on an interior defensive lineman. A dream scenario for me is us being able to land Malcom Brown in the first.

His coach was on Sirius the other day addressing players coming up in the draft. He said if he had to pick a single player of his, past or present, to build a team around it would be Jarrett. That's pretty high praise considering the talent he's had.

It should go hand in hand with the offensive line. If you see the impact those three 1st round picks had on the OL and what that allows us to do to opposing defenses, it stands to reason strengthening the DL so that opposing offenses can't do the same against us is equally important.

Hitting on Smith, Frederick and Martin should have opened the eyes of the Jones twins to not just what that can do for an offense but how critical it is to win the line of scrimmage battle every week on both sides of the football.

This is where you want your strength of the team. With the obvious exception of QB.

Right now our DT depth chart reeks of "get by". No matter who posts the multitude of options or how they personally scouted them on youtube. We should never be content with that group of players. There will be upgrades galore throughout the 2015 draft.
