Id also add the NFL and most teams offer financial guidance for players but many of these highly paid athletes choose not to take the advice.

Also , about 80% of the league players make a million or less a year which is a lot for the average guy but when you consider the average career is only 4 years that’s not nearly enough for a lifetime.

They have to plan for their post NFL career , invest wisely and live below their means planning for the future.

Interestingly it’s usually these smaller percentage of high profile players who are making the tens and hundreds of millions which we often hear and see their lifestyles and mistakes made.

I agree and understand your point but I would reiterate how responsible were you or me or anyone else at 21? Add in fame, money, women lining up to meet you, family upset that you didn’t “support them” enough and you get a player who can’t handle all the pieces of that equation.

I admire players who DO handle their finances responsibly and I’d like to think I would have been responsible but again with a 21 year old brain I can’t say with confidence I would be better, can you?

Well, young or old, that is why I don't play the lottery, I would be afraid to win millions and millions of dollars and the trouble that would come of it. I'm fine playing the blues for $800-$900 a weekend. It buys me some herb and pays the rent...

There are all kinds of NFL players from many different backgrounds with unique situations.
Yes , but over 2/3 are coming from less influential backgrounds with little financial guidance or examples except to live large once you make it. It is what it is.

No other professions I’m aware of which pay near to the level of professional sports have these kind of issues. Unfortunately I’d definitely argue it’s more about the type of background these athletes are coming from.

That’s fine for now but what about if you want a family . And what about investing for the future along with providing yourself and family health insurance .

Living for today is fine when you’re young with no responsibilities that impact and effect loved ones. Eventually elevate your expectations.

Maybe began writing or composing publishing your work. It wouldn't be that difficult to manage 8-9,000 a week instead of a few hundred . Perhaps with the additional time during the week you can attend some college classes to better educate yourself if that weekend gig fizzles out. Just saying. Good luck!!

Dallas is where head coaches come to kill their hc career. It’s a pipe dream to think Jerry or son will ever sign a hc and give him the power to 1) hire their own staff and 2) have the power to hire and fire put into their contract.
Yep

I’ve called it a graveyard for Head Coaches.

lol...my family days are here and gone. A while back I left the forum for four years and went to music school after I retired from the Military. I do get a little pension from the Military also for some PTSD. But, I'm fine.

You want to get rid of me on this forum, just make me post one of my blues tunes and Reality will go Medieval on me again and tell me if I ever post another of my tunes on any forum of his and I will be booted from this place forever! lol. He is ruthless, ruthless I tell you!

He’s a great man and motivator and an all time great head coach.

Always got the most from his players and had genuine love for them.

Not surprising really.

I think stuff like this happens more than people realize. It’s not done for accolades and is usually kept quiet.

I enjoyed his tenure here. His press conferences were epic.
I liked him too, apart from that Bobby Carpenter bit.

IMO, McCarthy will be fired unless we see an nfc championship game this season.

Next, Jerry will find another non-A personality coach come in to be the next figurehead hc. Jerry wants all the credit if we actually make a deep playoff run and if we do, then he will fire the hc because he perceives he got too much credit. Dallas is one of the few organizations that fires hc after they win Super Bowls).
Sometimes I think Jethro brings in a proven named HC just to show us that it’s not just him or puppet coaching preventing us from more success. Lol

Parcells was great in Dallas and he built/was building a great roster. That Romo FG fumble was just the nail in the coffin for his career. Definitely a heartbreaking way to lose a game/end the season for that team, let alone for us fans.

I actually like Wade Phillips, but let's not pretend like he could have had that year he did in 07 without the team that Parcells built.
We still had a chance to win that game but on the very next play or two, our defense gave up a big run and then we were done. Romo certainly provided a great rally to put us into position to win but I would argue whoever was responsible for having our starting QB play on FG and extra point attempts should receive all the blame. Again, our defense failed to mk critical stops.

Agreed. I don’t think any of us know that level of financial temptations being rich AND famous.

The Parcells ex-player package probably better than the Jimmy Johnson option. Jimmy takes them out on his boat and gives them all the beer and marlin they can eat.

Should i just complain about Jerry constantly while knowing that Jerry isn't going anywhere until he dies? Keep drinking the anti-Jerry kool-aid. I'm sure once he's gone we'll win 10 Super Bowls in a row.

It was a quote straight from Parcells. He's not one to sprinkle niceties in his words. It's also telling he did not take another head coaching job. If you read the article, believe it or not, Bill actually enjoyed his time coaching in Dallas and working with Jerry.
There is the Jerry quote stating that he was happy when Parcells left. I believe he liken the atmosphere to be akin to "walking on eggshells".

I don't think we should mince words. Neither of them hated each other, but if they both had their druthers they would not have chosen to work for each other.

Jerry needed a stadium because his team sucked, Sucked badly. Like biblical kind of sucking.

Parcells needed another challenge, and Jerry flew a plane into his neighbourhood and threw the money pile at him to support his pony habit.

If not for circumstances those two would not have gone out searching for each other to hang out for drinks.

Wade was not , nor ever will be a quality HC. He is a very nice guy, and has a good mind for defensive football, but handling the entire crew and making decisions on where the ship is steering is not his forte.

I could see that, which would drive me mad considering how much better we look now. Even if we take a step back this year (which can happen), this team looks phenomenal. I think Mike McCarthy is doing a nice job with this team, and the way the team responds to him looks much better than how they responded to Garrett. They clearly seem to genuinely respect him. The only coach that I'd be okay with replacing Mike would be Quinn.

The team was at dumpster fire status when he came in and brought them back to respectability seemingly overnight by his mere presence.
Absolutely, after 3 dreadful years of Dave Campo, Parcells had them competitive again. "Don't take the cheese".
