It’s pitiful that the multibillion a year profits doesn’t take care of its former players. Have you read what’s happening to Bernie Kosar?

I live in Cleveland. He's been on some major health products here as a result of his playing days and seems to regret playing with what he's been battling. One of the things that probably helps him is that he's beloved here in Cleveland, but he's been struggling big time.

NFL prints money.. Pathetic they don’t help out the guys who built their league.
especially the ones that played for peanuts.
Most players didnt get 1 mil a year till the 90's
Dallas signed a steeler db when jimmy was here and he got a million a year. And that was something back in 92 or 93

I'd be interested to see how that compares to today's salary taking into account inflation and comparing tv contacts and revenue back then.

The love on the board for a old washed up Giants coach is truly pathetic.

Or at the very least stayed for 2007 and 2008 seasons. That 2007 team was ready.
They were definitely ready and Jerry pulled the plug on that immediately! A complete dunce with the usual garbage decision making.

Tough for me to have sympathy for former players with financial problems probably brought on by poor decisions along the way. Health problems is another issue.

I bet a lot of players regret playing but others like Richard Sherman have said even if the knew all the risks, they’d still choose to play. I think most players will regret playing later in life.

I surmised that Kosar was loved by Cleveland and I hope he can get some medical help if that’s even possible at this point.

How much of that do you think he got back? Any?
It’s the act of giving that is the focal point of the article. Parcells loaned former players money which is a great act of kindness.

Who cares if he gets paid back? Do you actually have information that his former players are not paying him back?

It’s nice to read about a former Cowboys coach helping out former players even if they are mostly Giants.

“It’s just incredibly generous what he’s done with these guys. Bill has loaned out $4 million to 20 players that played for him, who come to him in this financial crisis. Bill knows when they come to him it’s a last resort,” Myers told WFAN-AM in New York on Friday morning, per the New York Post.
As hard as Parcells could be to play for you could tell players loved him.

Still can’t believe Jerry ran him out of here and hired the useless Wade Phillips.

To me, I think about the older players (Giants or otherwise) that played in an era where the contracts they signed had little or no provision for the NFL to pay for their disabilities later in life because of their NFL tenure.

That’s the group that needs help for health reasons like you said regardless if they squandered their money from their playing days.

I would also say, how would any of us have fared if we became an NFL player when we were 21, had a big influx of cash along w all the other temptations and issues that accompany being rich and famous?

I know. We were close. Having a coach like Parcells followed by coach cupcake was a big letdown and it also brought Jason Garrett into the coaching scene where he was allowed to learn on the job lol.

What might have been if Parcells had stayed is interesting for sure.

The lack of personal responsibility is what continues to destroy society.
I agree players must take responsibility for their actions, but my point is the NFL has not taken care of its older former players who helped make the league a multi-billion dollar a year financial behemoth as they have aged into some terrible unforeseen side effects of their playing days.

No one knew about CTE or the full effects on the body in later years. These older players like Mike Webster (Steelers) died with no health insurance from the NFL from injuries sustained while an employee of the NFL.

Some players went through their money because of CTE.

Players must take responsibility for their actions but the NFL should have covered the medical bills of their legacy players.

Yeah I wish the owners would take responsibility for the players who got disabled playing the game before they had the benefits players have today.

Many of today’s owners have made billions off the players who played in in the distant past who are suffering from the effects of repeated head trauma that we didn’t even know existed until this century. So many of the players from the 60s-80s are suffering today without the benefits the players today have.

The owners should take responsibility to help those who helped make them generationally wealthy.

You guys just want to blame Jerry for literally everything bad that happens. Directly from Parcells mouth:

"I was just really upset and saddened by that last game," Parcells says. "I just didn't want to try to do it again. I know from coaching all these years, if you're not mentally geared up for it – it's hard enough to do it anyway, but if you don't get really into it, it's impossible. I just thought enough was enough."

Absolutely nothing to do with Jerry Jones.
