Great QB news: Cassel a possibility

Cassel is a horrible player at this point in his career. All he can do is dink and dunk, he has below average arm talent... and worse, he is a boring, non-charismatic player. He's the exact opposite of the kind of player you would want to inject to give them a "jolt". If you could put a shadow on game footage of Weeden this year to where I couldn't tell who it was, I would think it was Cassel.

Weeden is also a horrible football player. But if the Cowboys are playing a bad enough team -- and if the defense would ever decide to get a turnover or any back could break a tackle somewhere and make a play -- they can win with Weeden. Saying that it can't get any worse with Cassel is extremely dangerous. Cassel has no experience with this roster and has not played very much period over the last couple of years. If his expiration date has silently passed -- like Brad Johnson's did in 2008 -- they run the risk of losing one of the few winnable games they have left.

No QB on the roster was going to win this game today throwing to Lucky Whitehead and Devin Street. Acting like today was the straw that broke the camel's back is laughable. Whatever decision is made must be made with the idea of giving the team the best shot to beat the Eagles and Bucs. It's possible that may be Cassel, but I doubt it.

Weeden hasn't won a single game as a starter

What, they are going to actually admit the Weeden experiment was a colossal failure?

Since the point flew completely over your head, I'll just ask it... why is it that Weeden, who has actually played with Dez in college and the pros, wouldn't benefit from getting Dez back but Cassel, who hasn't thrown one pass with this team, would?

Because Weeden isn't good. Dez's patented move especially on the goal line is the back shoulder fade and it was clear on that miss to Williams he can't throw that ball. With the safety over the top once Dez gets the guy on his hip you have to be able to get it up to him at the highest point and I have no confidence that Weeden can do that.

This. I wish I could quote it 5x for emphasis.

I don't think they will be mathematically out of the playoffs after 9 games.

You're assuming he'll be back after 9 games but we don't know for sure. Let's say he is and the Cowboys are 2-7 which is possible the way it's been going since he's been out they may have to win out unless 8 wins takes the division. I don't see a wildcard as a possibility it's going to take winning the division to get in. As long as the Cowboys have a shot at the playoffs even if it's unrealistic they'll play Romo but if they don't they'll sit him the rest of the season because like I said another injury could affect his 2016 season. We're finding out we can't win without him.

Who said they were easy wins?

There is no one who, when Romo went down, didn't point to those two games as ones we really needed if we wanted to have much of a season left when Romo got back.

I'm not sure "easy" is the right word, but we needed those and we didn't get them. Now, we're in real trouble.

Weeden never threw a pass to dez in college. Zack Robinson was qb for ok st.
And yes he has played one game w dez in the pros, although an auspicious debut it was...... But carry on

Okay, but he claimed they were "easy games". They never were, not with the injuries we had.

I don't care about how inconsistent the Saints are. As long as Drew Brees is playing, they can be dangerous. And the Falcons have proved they aren't easily beat either.

They never were easy games. Must wins? Debatable, but okay.

Way I see it to stay in the playoff hunt Dallas would need to win at least 2 of the next 4 games. It looked like a defeated team. Can't blame them. They've lost their quarterback, their emotional leader and best player in Dez Bryant, and if a change isn't made I can't see them being better than 2-7 when Romo returns.

At 4-5 the Cowboys would still have a chance because the way the division is shaping up it may only take 9 wins to win the East. Really need to win next week because it's going to be hard snapping a 4 game losing streak against Seattle. The Cowboys confidence looks pretty shot right now and another loss next week could be tough to overcome. This team desperately needs a win if they're going to stay afloat.

Don't know what Cassell has left in him but I'd rather try with him over another game with Weeden behind center.

Next we will win. The team we face could be the toughest all year but I will guarantee you we will not lose since it is our bye. Lol

JG "considered" playing CM today lol, so I dont think he will change yet.
I also think it is JG who wants to keep weedon in, not jerry.

My thought was to play cassel today and just see what he looks like, no way your beating NE with weeden, so play cassel !
Then you know more about cassel, and can take your pick for giants.
If weedon starts again they will lose.
But I have to say it isnt all weedens fault, or randle.
It is Jg, same offense , same plays, no innovation , or gambles, no new formations,he doesnt do anything to give this team a chance.
In this situation you need to look at the players you have and design some plays that are new and suit their strengths, not force them to run your
system offense.

When hardy and others were getting to brady early, the pats adjusted , and turned the game, they dont just keep trying to force things they change .
They also had some new formations for this game.
We were out coached today big time.

I thought the defense played great considering they were on the field most of first half, while our offense went 3 and out over and over.

nothing to lose. what, more games? you'll do that with weeden.

There are a lot worse QBs than Weeden. Really, I was totally against Weeden 100%, and pretty much have been, but he has been infinitely better than Ryan Leaf, or Aaron Wright.

It's not great news that our QB is playing so poorly he may get benched. Folks thinking the next guy will do better will be sadly disappointed until that guy is Romo.

at this point, most of us are thinking that the 'next guy' can't possibly be any worse than Weeden....and we are sick of seeing him. Many of us have reached the point where we don't even like looking at him.
