My thing is the scheme didn't really change from last year. This is McCarthy's scheme that we put in and were effective with, because we a) had better skill players (Cooks is fading as he aged, but is easily better than the backups we're playing in his absence), b) had at least a slightly better offensive line, particularly the tackles, although Steele was struggling then, and c) had a running threat.

Tell me why the scheme wasn't an issue last year?
It wasnt an issue.

Just another excuse for Dak.

It all starts up front. There is no blocking. One of the biggest surprises this year is how badly Zack Martin is playing. There is no running game because there is nowhere to run.

I have no doubt Dak is trying to force teh ball downfield, after the Cowboys get way behind, but let's be honest, For the 1st 3 quarters we see more pass attempts under 5 yards than over. I don't know if that's Dak going to the check down too soon or because there is no one open, or because that is what was called. But I agree with Olsen. 12-15 play drives are not going to put up many points, especially not with this offensive line. You know in thos 12 plays there will be at least 1 holding or 1 false start, or some other negative play.

The difference between this year and last is the roster. They are a worse team by a lot this year.

I expect it to get a little better when Cooks, Parsons and Lawrence return, if we don't suffer any other injury setbacks. Still I don't think we can overcome the protection issues and lack of a running game or our DT issues without making moves, and we know the Joneses aren't going to make any difference-making moves
My issue is they can’t stop the run or rush the passer or run the football. So I don’t know……

LOL!!!

Nice backtracking.

And yes, you completely disagreed with him. This is so embarrassing.
:lmao2: :lmao2::lmao2:

OLSEN said THE REASON we aren't running plays under center is because we can't run the ball, so we can't go playaction.

YOU said we don't run plays under center because Dak prefers not to.

LMAOO!!! You either don't even know what the hell your ignorant opinion was, or you didn't actually watch the video.

"DURRRR, NUH-UH I AGREED WITH DA FOOTBALL ANALYST!!!"
:lmao2::lmao2::lmao2::lmao2::lmao2:
I watched it again. He never said they were in shotgun spread because they can't run the ball. He did say that made Dak feel more pressure, but not that it dictated any formation.

Where I agree with him is that we should be running more under center, the Shanahan type stuff that more teams are running.

Guess I'll wait for the barrage of lmao smilies. Maybe if you add even more it will help your argument.

What changed, scheme wise, between this year and last year besides us not playing the worst defensive pass schedule in the NFL?
What changed is Dan Quinn vs Zimmer.......

Washington taking off isn't a fluke.....

As soon as we hired Zimmer.....I knew it was a mistake. Everything we did in the off season was a disaster.

Zimmer's scheme is the problem. Leaving his DBs in no man land. That zone scheme is crap. We rarely get pressure. We don't blitz....We don't man up on defense. The few times we do try to man up.....the match ups are horrible. It's like Zimmer has no clue how to match up. Example....Why would you try and stick Donovan Wilson on a 6'5 George Kittle? He's giving up 6 inches and 50lbs on the guy.....It's just stupidity how this coaching staff thinks.

Olsen wants to blame the defense, but Dak has been an absolute BUM this year. He's the highest paid QB in the league putting up kindergarten numbers. The easy thing to do is to blame the defense, but what about agains the 49ers when the defense got stops at the end of the game and gave Dak 3+ minutes to go and get a game winnin TD and he goes 4 and out almost throwing a pick into double coverage. The problem is Dak and it always has been. At least when Romo didn't have a line and had to run for his life for years he'd scramble or move in the pocket to create time and make plays. Dak just sits there like a deer in headlights. The Dak resigning will go down as one of the dumbest moves this franchise has done in a long time.

If you can't run the ball....

And you can't go playaction because you can't run the ball.....

Then there is literally zero reason NOT to be in a spread formation.

Football 101.

"NO BUT I ALREADY DIED ON MY HILL!!! DAK HATES PLAYACTION THIS YEAR EVEN THOUGH HE'S BEEN SUPER SUCCESSFUL AT IT HISTORICALLY!!!"

O line can't run block for crap..I don't know if a good running back can run behind this line.

Well, you'd think we'd get somewhat better at one of those when Parsons and Lawrence return. As I said, Lawrence isn't a high sack guy, but he generally can get enough pressure to keep QBs from feeling totally comfortable. Stopping the run and running the ball is going to continue being a challenge with the personnel we have.

I don't know. Dowdle is averaging 4.2 per carry, including 4.4 over the last five games. I think the line is part of the problem, but the backs the Joneses chose to employ share the blame.

What DOESN'T ail the Cowboys besides our kicker is the proper question...

What this said to me is that Dak should have played out the last year of his deal and left in free agency because with the way the Jones Family does business, he's going to be another in a long line of good players to rot and win nothing in Dallas.

I said it as well. Hard to feel for Dak or Lamb. They bought in to this.
