I keep hearing how aggressive Greg Williams would make our D be if he were our D-coordinator, so I decided to look up each team's defensive rankings for this regular season, and I chose the 2 most important ones, scoring D, and takeaways....pretty interesting results came up

note: Zimmer's 1st year calling 3-4 defensive plays, and starting 2 rookies and 2 1st year players all 16 games, as opposed to Williams 2nd year running the Skin's 4-3, w/ only 1 1st year player starting all 16 games

Washington Commander's scoring D, 2005:

18.3 ppg allowed, gave up 32 TDs

Dallas Cowboy's scoring D, 2005:

19.2 ppg allowed, gave up 35 TDs

Commander takeaways, 2005:

28; 16 INTs, 12 fumbles

Cowboy takeaways, 2005:

26; 15 INTs, 11 fumbles

Commander's total defensive ranking: 9th

Cowboy's total defensive ranking: 10th

shoot, here's some more

average yards per play Washington allowed:

4.9

average yards per play Dallas allowed:

5.1

rushing D, Commanders:13th Cowboys: 15th

rushing yards allowed per game, Commanders:

105.4

Dallas:

108.2

average yards per carry against Commander D:

4.1

average yards per carry against Cowboy D:

4.2

rushing TDs against Commander D:

15

Dallas:

13

20+ yard runs against Commander D:

11

Dallas:

7

Pass D, Washington: 10th, Dallas: 11th

passing yards per game allowed, Commanders:

192.6

Dallas:

192.7

passing TDs allowed, Commanders:

15

Dallas:

18

SACKS, Washington:

35

Dallas:

37

so is Greg WIlliams that much better than Zimmer?

Here you go again with the logic.. but now you're bringing it into a Zimmer discussion.

BTW... outstanding breakdown.. I never realized we were so even with them.

I was suprised too, but again, that's not hard to do when you get alot of people on here telling you how far apart the 2 were :laugh2:

HAHA.. guess I was going the "politically correct" route.

see what facts can do? normally, mentioning the name of Zimmer gets 5 of these mothers in here in the 1st 3 seconds of opening the thread

ah, the repellent of the ignorant...facts :lmao:

the sacks portion is irrelevant in my opinion

we might have had more sacks, but they had far more consistent pressure on the QB. there were games that we would have 3ish sacks, but for the majority there would be no pressure on the QB. i would much rather take 4 quarters of getting a hit on the QB everytime than 3 good plays...

Show us a pressure number. I do know Ware had 19 pressures and Ellis had 11 I believe. Go to a Skins board and they will tell you all about their LACK of pressure on the QB

can't fault you for feeling that way, we definitely could have used more pressure at key points during the season, alot of key points actually, but outside of Ware, we had noone on the outside who could rush the passer consistently, to disguise where the 3rd blitzer was coming from, he was our only pass-rushing threat basically

our inability to bring the heat whenever we wanted to, should alleviate once we get another pass-rusher or 2 into our LB corp, and a FS that can cover, that would allow Roy WIlliams to blitz more often

roy blitzing is the most effective pressure we have, he needs to be around the line

Where is the stat for the # of 20+ yard pass plays given up? I dont see a stat for 4th quarter leads evaporating into thin air, something Zimmer has perfected over the years. If this team doesnt make the playoffs and win at least a playoff game next year will you still be touting the stats...or will you take off the rose colored glasses and look for tangible results.

you keep saying the same thing about 4th quarter leads while totally ignoring that the defense should never have been put into a situation where giving up 2 TDs would lose the game. If the offense could score 20 points on a regular basis. Think about it if our team could score 20 lousy points in every game we would have been 13-2-1

Uh no thanks. :)

I've taken a look at our second half offensive stats...they are, well, offensive.

I just think that the Commanders brought their game to another level during the second half of the season.

Thankfully, they're out of the playoffs now.
