We all know this. Just posting the update.

The status of Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory will be known before the Cowboys open the playoffs next week, the Fort Worth Star-Telegam reported Wednesday evening.

Gregory flew to New York Tuesday to appeal a pending suspension of at least a year for missing a drug test.

Gregory, who was back with the team Wednesday, said he doesn’t know what the final outcome of his appeal hearing will be. He was suspended for the first 14 games of this season for two violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. He withdrew an appeal of that suspension in September.

The Cowboys haven’t had Gregory available long enough to have him a key part of their plans, but he recorded his first career sack in last weekend’s regular-season finale.

Yeah I think he's gone too. O well. It's a shame for him but as a team we've done pretty well winning 12 out of the 14 games he's been suspended so I think we'll be okay moving forward.

I'm more worried about DLaw and his back then Gregory.

If he somehow manages to dodge this bullet, we need to put him on the shortest of leashes and cut him the first time he relapses.

He put himself in the situation so you go with who is available.

IMO-- he is nothing more than a "nice to have" pass rushing specialist. Our run D is less effective with him in there-- he has not shown that he knows how to keep contain and play gap control-- yes I know he had a couple TFLs-- but trust me, he is not a +run defender.

Beyond that-- we have guys getting healthy who have contributed and worked all season to get there. Hate to see them lose time to a guy who cant put the team above his need to get high.

Sorry-- just don't get the anxiety over this kid. I hope he gets his head on straight for next year-- I am counting on him not being out there and honestly don't care that much about it.

We could be focusing on another player now, if we knew he was going to be suspended, but of course "they" know that.

If he CLEARLY violated the rule wouldn't they have suspended right away after appeal? Why the hold up if he is guilty?
They'll drag this out so we have as little time to prepare for his absence.

Hopefully the Cowboys realize he's not playing again this year.

Just drop the hammer now and probably rightfully deserved, Gregory brought this mess upon himself plain and simple. There is simply no excuse for missing a drug screen when the NFL can bring a courier to you within an hour regardless of where you are unless you're hiding something.

So let them dangle in the wind on their preparation and then give them the "courtesy" of letting them know right before. This either needs to be handed down with plenty of time or at least wait until after the game. A suspension after the weekly preparation for a playoff game is unfair to the team.

I don't think there's any "anxiety" over him. I think people just want to see him play in year 2. Its not about how great he is. Its what hopefully he can become. If he can stay off the weed that is.
