Gregory's 2015 performance

Horrible... He played with ZERO motor after the injury in the 1st regular season game.

DeMarcus Lawrence 2014 rookie season: 217 defensive snaps, 11 tackles (1 for loss), 6 quarterback pressures, 0 sacks
Randy Gregory 2015 rookie season (entering Sunday): 216 defensive snaps, 10 tackles (1 for loss), 15 quarterback pressures, 0 sacks

Not true.....D-law has a sack in the playoffs

Lawrence 2014 games played: 7
Gregory 2015 games played: 12

Part of why Gregory got fewer snaps than Lawrence did his rookie season, despite playing 60% more games, is he just was too light to be in the base defense.

Let's all cross our fingers and hope Gregory picks up it year 2 like Lawrence did.

Given his size when he came in and Greg Hardy starting at that spot I didn't expect him to do much more than redshirt this season. We'll see how he looks in year two.

Given the lack of success the entire team enjoyed this year, I'm not too concerned about Gregory's lack of production. He fell in line with a lot of other players who failed to step up.

I expect him to show dramatic improvement next season.

Eh, I grade him as an incomplete, like D-Law his rookie year.

He needs to work on his technique and gaining weight, but I think he has the talent/ability to be a productive player next year.

He had a serious injury that is tough to regain full form. It is just a lingering injury. IN the first game of the season, he did appear to have a natural instinct to rush the passer. I think he will be a good rusher. I think the concern with him besides playing the run is if he can be a good teammate and a reliable player. He should have plenty of motivation to proof himself as he works in the offseason.

I hate to keep on bringing up the Commanders as I think they are pretty average, but their second round pick Smith had 8.5 sacks this year and he stuck out the few times I watched the Skins. He was probably the less sexy pick between him and Gregory but he had a really good rookie year.

This is a product of the media making someone a god before they even take a snap. You'll fall right into the trap every time. He was hailed as the next Ware. This will back fire on front office, this guy along with Jones are busts.

I don't understand this reply at all. We are talking about our 2nd round pick not our 1st. Regardless of how we/scouts/ media ... saw him, he was still our 2ND ROUND pick. Would you want more from your 2nd round pick? Of course but to label him a bust already I don't get it.

Let's hope he has the same drive to improve physically and technically as Lawrence after their rookie season.

Gregory was always going to be a 3rd down rusher first few seasons.
He may develop later in his career(much easieer to gain weight and strength than add speed or agility) but he wasn't a 1st round pick because of his size.

It is a bummer he didn;t get to the passer more but it is what it is and his ankle likely killed his pass rush efforts.
High ankle aprains are often worse than breaks. It takes physical time and then mental time.
For most athletes it is a year to fully recover burst and confidence.

good post

Wow. Jones is far from a bust. Where is that block button?

All the more reason to sign Hardy and let Gregory be more of a specialist.

Hardy is probably the only really tough decision we have to make. I think it will be interesting what he will garner as a FA. If he wants mega bucks, he walks.

I don't think anyone is going to throw mega bucks at him honestly. His season didn't warrant a huge contract, he can still be a PR nightmare though the worst is likely behind him in that regard. I suspect, he will sign a modest deal with us loaded with incentives or sign another 1-2 year deal hoping to give it one more shot at a huge contract.

Yep. You have to give him a mulligan for this year.

What are we to make of Gregory's 2015 performance?

He ended the year with 0 sacks in 12 games.

He he been able to gain any weight since his time at Nebraska?

Does he have the potential to be something more than a pass-rushing specialist?

To me the biggest disappointement of the draft.

He has to bulk up alot and learn different moves. He was manhandled by TEs the whole season.

Disappointed with Gregory for sure. He needs to bulk up and not lose his speed. He was getting pushed around too much out there.

Just as I cut slack for D Lawrence in his rookie season I will do the same for Gregory. I knew when Dallas took him that it would likely be year 2 before his overall talent would shine through. He needs to add some bulk this off season, in my view. I think a full off season will do wonders for him if he is willing to put in the work required

He didn't get any sacks but teams still hedged protection towards him. He also got pretty consistent pressure forcing the QB to move. He got washed against the run too often and right now is only a situational pass rusher.

Players don't gain weight during the grind of the season typically. He might have to mature and wait for his hyper-thyroid or whatever he has to settle down.

What do you expect. He was a second round pick for the Cowboys. We struggle with those.
