We will not allow the ball to be thrown deep down the middle or inside.
Pretty hard to do if you're only using one safety in coverage, as many fans want to see.

That's simply not true. You can have a zone blitz where your corners are manned up.Rack;1385196 said:A Zone blitz does require you to play zone. If you call a blitz and you aren't playing zone, then it's not a zone blitz.
You can't possibly blitz and play man to man and call it a "Zone blitz".

See David's post.
But the lineman that drops into space drops into zone coverage.Rack;1385260 said:If the corners are in MAN coverage, it's not a ZONE.

Sure it is. If you disagree that's fine. It doesn't bother me that you don't understand what a zone blitz is.Rack;1385274 said:That's still not considered a zone blitz.

Wow, this couldn't be more wrong. Kinda funny.Rack;1385311 said:Not if the CBs are manned up.
Says the person that I've taught more about football in the last year then he knew previously.
It takes more then ONE linemen dropping into a zone for it to be a zone blitz.
Learn the game, Timmy. Or do you want me to spank you again debating potential draftees this year?

It certainly is possible. The point is to drop the lineman into the shallow zone to prevent the offense from audibling to a quick slant when the defense shows blitz.summerisfunner;1385321 said:heh, I didn't know it was possible for 1 man to go into a zone coverage while the CBs are playing man

Edit: It doesn't "prevent" the offense from doing so, it simply means there will be a man in that short zone if the receiver does run a quick slant.
theogt;1385329 said:The bottom line is this: The switch in responsibility is required for there to be a "zone-blitz" (regardless of coverage). There is no play in the Atlanta playbook that calls for this switch in responsibility. Hence there is no zone blitz in the playbook.
Whatever. It doesn't matter. There are no plays in the playbook that require a switch in responsibility.summerisfunner;1385331 said:wrong
So you agree with them, but not me? They echoed exactly what I was saying.Chocolate Lab;1385375 said:Next time, why don't you guys use PMs or start a new thread so you don't soil a good one like this? (BTW, I agree with dwmyers and CoachHodnett. But who cares, it's still off topic to the thread.)
I mean, that playbook is awesome -- thanks to whoever found it and gave us the link about 100 posts ago. Wouldn't it be great to also have Zimmercells' playbook from the last two years and compare the two? As someone said -- again, many posts back -- this one has to be more complex. Is Bradie James smart enough to make all the calls? I doubt it. Maybe Carpenter can make them. Or maybe Donnie Edwards still has a little in the tank.
I know everyone had to love all the stunts and blitzes, though, as well as all the formations with the SS in the box. I have a feeling we're really going to have some fun watching this defense this year.
