Gronkowski vs. Witten

Written is the Iron Horse of football. He missed 1 game in his entire career when he had a broken jaw. Even a ruptured spleen couldn't sideline him. The man is the definition of true grit and sustained excellence, which is why he is an easy 1st ballot HOF'er.

To me Gronk has alway been a splash player, he is a great player but I woul take the grinder Witt over him. Gronk plays in a system that is good for him, I don't think he would have the same numbers if he played with Cowboys

I dont know how anybody look at Gronk and say it's the system. He's not Julian Edelman. He's a freak of nature and is able to catch just about anything in his radius. And he's a TD machine.

Gronk is a special player but no way is his career going to come close to Witten's totals. Probably why Witten was one spot of Gronk in NFLN's top 10 TE show.

Funny you posted this, I was just arguing with a Pats fan on twitter that there is no way Gronk is going to catch Witten in yards or receptions. However Gronk has 5 more TDs in roughly half the time.

To me Gronk is the better player but Witten will have the better career.

Gronk out again, becoming the Romo of TEs.
Witten over 200 straight games going to pass Sharpe in both TDs and Yards.
Is there really any debate as to who is the overall better player?
It's the age-old debate of peak vs. career value. Gronk's best season is much better than Witten's. Gronk's best two consecutive seasons are much better than Witten's. But Witten is likely to blow him away in career value, because Gronk just can't stay healthy.

Can't imagine anyone outside of our Cowboys world saying Witt > Gronk.
Not here to argue one way or the other, just saying how I think the consensus is.

The two almost play a different position they play it so differently. Injuries aside, Gronkowski is a far more impactful player.

Witten is the 2nd best TE to ever play still. Gronk hasn't passed witten yet. He has a lot more to prove imo.
I love Witt, but the only thing he has on Gronk is longevity and, as I said, reliability.

Gronk averages more Yards per game and nearly averages 3 times as many TDs.

That's probaby true but witten is a leader and a hell of a guy off the field also. Gronk is awesome but I'll take witten all day.

Now, that's not true. Witt's a more reliable WR, a much better blocker, and a tougher all-around player. On top of the longevity and the general availability. He's just not the scoring threat or the matchup nightmare that Gronk is.

The guys are comparable in that they're both legit first-ballot HoFs at their position. Not everything is catches and TDs. Not when each have teammates that round out their respective offenses, too.

Pro Football Reference calculates an "Approximate Value" for each player every season. It is what it is; you can give it as much or as little credence as you like. The numbers for Gronk and Witten are informative, though. From best season to worst:

Gronk: 14, 12, 12, 8, 7, 5
Witten: 13, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 4, 3

110 reception season is pretty darn impactful if you ask me. Gronk has only had 80 receptions twice in his career, Witten has done it 6 times.

Gronk has been injured in 4 of the 7 seasons he has played in as well.
