Let's play the what if game.

If you were guaranteed our 1st pick in the upcoming NFL draft was a guaranteed, multi year pro bowl type player, excluding qb, what position would be most helpful in your opinion?

I could see a solid case for DE for obvious reasons, but this team desperately needs a talent upgrade at safety and linebacker as well.

That said, I also love the idea of having a pro bowl caliber guy next to Booker. The right side of the OL would be good for a decade.

I'm all for both drafting and re-building the defense through free agency, but in that scenario you bring up, OT

So you want to empower Jerry to pick another Taco Charlton.

I hate to say it, but If I could add 1 pro-bowl caliber player to the Cowboys it would have to be Edge. A 10-12 sack guy would probably make the greatest impact right now.

But OT, LB, S, CB and TE would all make a huge impact.

When Dallas drafts next April this should be their mindset. Find an all pro caliber player regardless of position. If they are drafting in the top 5 I think it has to be LT or Edge depending on who is available. If there is a Tyron Smith in this draft, take him. Move Guyton to RT and waive Steele.

let's wait until the 2nd round to draft another OL, or pick up one in FA that can actually play

1) Middle LB
2) Defensive End
3) Right Tackle
4) Safety
5) Fast/Quick underneath WR

If you can guarantee a Lane Johnson/Trent Williams-type OT, I'd take it. That's 10+ years of PB/AP production. Otherwise, a stud DT would be my choice.

Why are we excluding QB? That's the obvious answer. Is Dak untouchable in this conversation? Or can we stop pretending he's not the guy killing this team?

If we can get a QB with the qualifications that you described, we can officially start a meaningful rebuild and be a realistic contender in a couple of years.

Spinning our wheels like we've been doing for the past 30 years is no longer working for me.

This is such an open-ended question. I’d rather know who’s actually sitting there than just pick a position.

Is there a generational QB available? (sorry, in no reality can this be excluded)
A stud MLB?
One of the best safeties we’ve seen in years?

What are we working with here?
