Guitar Frets: Feds Raid Gibson...

We don't exactly know the facts behind how it went down. Maybe Gibson was denying it and they knew they had illegally obtained product. You can't exactly tell them you will be by next week to pick it up and makes arrests. We both know it doesn't work like that.

It specifically said "the feds are keeping mum". That tells me they weren't just trying to make a splash. You are hearing this from the media.

Either way, we don't know the full facts of how this went down so any statements for or against should be tempered. If Gibson was knowingly breaking laws/rules, then they fully deserve to get taken down. If the governmental agency was just trying to grandstand, then they should be backhanded instead. (or both)

Gibson is hurting these days. Not as many people are buying Les Pauls anymore.

My Les Paul has red paint on the side of the fretboard. That is a quality control issue and a good reason not to buy Les Pauls. When you spend over $1k on a guitar, that should NEVER happen.

If they were buying illegally harvested hardwoods from protected forests and knew about it they absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt should be busted and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I'm a tree hugger and proud of it.

Go get 'em.

No, it shouldn't. The one I was considering was well over 5k. But I went for the PRS, which sounded better and was cheaper.

I have heard from many people that the Gibbys have had very poor quality control the last few years and that although the Epihpones are the lower priced models they are the ones who have also had the better quality control.

Who knows.

I am NOT a tree-hugger, but if Gibson illegally procured prohibited hardwoods, then they ought to be raided. What is the Justice Department supposed to do, investigate them while the evidence gets made into guitars and shipped out, lost to the gov't case forever?

they could find that out by just buying a couple of the guitars.

A whole lot cheaper then what they did.

In this day and age my trust in any government agency is minimal.

Imagine if the Government had put this much effort into tracking guns over the Mexican Boarder.

Oh well, continue to grind the axe all you dedicated musicians out there!

Gibson has been an incredibly poorly run company. The head is a meglomaniac. They've been known to go through top execs to the tune of three per position per year. No one usually lasts longer than one year. An awful place to work. They've just wasted the golden advantage that they had a product that would sell well without any real advertising.

Considering what I know of how Gibson has been operating, it wouldn't surprise me that they were cheating on their materials big time.

Quotes from ex employees:
“Worst Place to work in Nashville!”, “No sense of accomplishment or pride in product.” , “Stay away”

PRS blows them away anyway. In my opinion, they're the most versatile AND best sounding tone you can get.

There are even a few other companies I like even more like Suhr and Schecter. But it's all subjective to ones ear anyway.

I've played some nice Gibsons, but nothing compares to a PRS.

What kind of music do you play?
