Gun to your head: Takk or Harris?

Unless his surgery corrects this, McKinley does not use his long arms very well.

It is almost like he has little to no use for them when engaging a blocker. Like an armless trunk rushing the passer.

Technique can be taught. It should not be presumed that he can not improve that part of his game. Marinelli is considered one of the great teachers of linemen in the game.

From all accounts, Takk seems like a motivated kid willing to put in the work. He is very raw, yes, but he has the physical tools to be a great pass rusher with some proper coaching and technique.

I would be fine with either, but McKinley has a higher upside in my opinion. He plays with a good motor, and if he works on learning hand work, he has the ability to be a presence off the edge.

I'll take Takk -- he'll get you more sacks and TFLs. He's also rated higher by scouts but might be gone by pick 28. Realistically, Harris actually wouldn't be a bad alternative by any means.

But the gun is to your head, Friendo. You have to make the call. I can't call it for you.

Does anybody remember another UCLA passrusher Odhiguwa who fell all the way to the 3rd Rd?.he was a great physical specimen and had a great Combine but was stiff as a board and has yet to do anything in the NFL.I feel Takk is similar ,he has no pass rush moves at all and is stiff like OO.There is a bust factor with Takk many are not seeing. He may overcome his stiffness with his relentlessness but you actually need to have pass rush skills to survive in the NFL.Harris on the otther hand has an incredible first step ,devastating spin move and is still learning to use his hands.I feel Harris and Watt are a safer pick than Takk.

Marinelli's defense isn't really about pass rush moves. Dungy seemed to be a little more about them with Freeney. Although I wouldn't call Robert Mathis a rusher with a great repertoire of moves, he basically used speed rushes and with his incredible ability to bend laterally, he was tough to stop.

With that said, the Colts were putrid against the run because of the style of play that Freeney and Mathis had.

It just seems to me that Marinelli has more concern for stopping the run. I think he wants to get to the passer, but he doesn't want the run defense to get out of hand. And it's more about getting upfield as quick and as fast as you can while sustaining your gap integrity. I tend to prefer Takk in this case. Some of the concerns I have for Takk are his hip fluidity, but a good trainer can take a year or so and greatly improve that. If I had my preference, I'd probably go with TJ Watt (Jabril Peppers, but I can't see him lasting that long).

Tails for Takk
Heads for Harris.

Thank you for locking in. I wish there was a poll option when I started this thread.

****Edit****
Takk - 17 votes
Harris - 14 votes.

Mckinley is stiff. U can't teach someone to bend or footwork like Harris has. Harris no doubt. Would be a good pick at 28.

Yup, quite a few Zoners including myself were intrigued by Owa. Lots of similarities between to the two besides their school.
