Neutering. That'll show them.

Don't man up? Well, we'll take those.

He was already a bad guard. At least he's a good center...other than the whole snaps issue, which actually hasn't been a problem the last two seasons until last week.

Am I crazy or did someone say that he and Kitna had been having trouble with snaps all along?

The OL as a whole is the last thing that will come together under Garrett. You can't undo all the damage that has been done with these guys in a few weeks.
They need a physical TC, and tons of reps until everything is automatic. It's no coincidence this group has deteriorated every year under the creampuff regime.
I think we all realized this baloney about how difficult this TC was supposed to be was propaganda, a lot of garbage is still garbage.

That said, it's never too early to draft a couple stud OL, and find a firey OL coach.

I don't know who you're watching - he is NOT a good center.

Is this based off of shotgun snaps alone? Because I'm sorry if you actually watch football-as in the game itself-and come to this conclusion then you don't know anything about line play.

I know back in 2002 he played guard and struggled there more than he did at center. Why does everyone assume he will be better there now?

Maybe calling out the assignments is just to much for him. He isn't surrounded by solid players.
It's pretty bad to forget the count as much as he does.

He had a bad game due to the snapping errors but Aikman overestimated their frequency.

We've got 3 bigger problems on the OL than him: Colombo's knees, Davis' lack of lateral quickness and Kosier's health. If we luck out into a top-flight Centre in the draft or FA, I could see moving Gurode to guard where he should also be effective.

Gurode has been doing this for years, come on

No Gurode has not had a game like this in years. Bad snaps have not happened in the last 3 years with any frequency at all. The ignorance shown in these threads is astounding.

Agreed. He needs to focus more though. We need to get a RG and RT. We can get one in FA and another with a high pick. Then let them compete. Let the best play.

This isn't true.

Colombo is putrid and Davis is performing at a below average level. Even Kosier, when he has played, has been bad.

Gurode makes a couple "obvious" mistakes in every game - penalties and flubbed snaps, that are just as bad as they look. But in context of dozens and dozens of snaps per game, they are typically made up for. Gurode has actually been "OK" this year.

I'm not sure what the big fuss on him is. He's not even close to being at the awful level of performance we've gotten from Colombo or Davis.

We can't fire him but we need to start looking for a replacement.

Bob Sturm had a blog discussing this earlier this year. He said that Gurode seems to snap the ball whenever he pleases. At times it looked as though he was driving Romo nuts out there, and he's doing the same with Kitna.

I can't recall who I heard this weekend on ESPN say that the key to offense - more than anything else - is precision. My novice eyes would agree. The Pats and Colts have hardly been the most athletic teams the last several years, yet they're always at or near the top of offensive rankings. Is Andre Gurode a precise player? Nope, no one could make that argument. Lack of precision leads to snaps on the wrong count, missing calls (or blocks) that get your QB killed, or snapping the ball over the QBs head. It is my hope that Garrett will instill and require precision in the offense. I don't think Gurode is capable of it. Given that, something will have to be done with him, IMO.

He's an extremely talented player, probably our most gifted OL. But he's also evidently a mental midget, at the one position on the OL where you need a guy who's really with it.

Hopefully Gurode can be moved to guard. He failed there before, but that was many years ago. We need one and maybe two guards anyway. If a top-notch center is available at that early 2nd round pick, they should really give him a close look.

We have bigger fish to fry on the OL.

I wonder why it is that Gurode always has all his troubles with snapping the ball come within a short period of time.

My biggest concerns with Gurode is not just the errant snaps but his inability to help direct the line. That leads to not only protection but ineffective blocking problems. Too often our qbs are working overtime directing the line and redirecting the center.

Both the quarterback and center have to not only have physical ability but also possess agile minds. Remember Stepnoski? Not the most imposing physical presence at center but he leveraged every ounce of his body and he really adjusted that line well and or kept it in check.

after those mess ups. i truely think somebody got into him or maybe his lght just turned on. Cause after that the guy was just obliterating anybody in front of him. didnt u see him on the td runs by barber and choice? gurode blew them holes open

Thats true, after that screwup he was beasting. In the end its like Flo, you gotta consider if his one or two major screwups a game are worth what he does give on the field, which is (usually) pro-bowl calibre center line play.
