If he was unwilling to take a pay cut, and restructure that deal, then it's very unlikely anyone would have traded for him for the deal he currently had in place.

I think Arkin, Nagy, and the job Kowalski didn't against the Vikings along with the hold over from last year Costa is the entire reason Gurode and his fat contract got the boot. We've got a lot of young offensive lineman who are showing that they can play in this league.

They should continue to improve as well. It is a scary move but probably the right one.

If so, that is crazy. Romo isn't on his last legs yet, but he's not a spring chicken anymore either, and there's no way we should be sacrificing any of his prime years for some future hopes.

If this was about some long-range plan, why not draft a center high and let Gurode go next year?

Is Gurode past his prime? Yes. Did he deserve every one of those Pro Bowls? Probably not. But he was also a certified bad-a in college, an all-America four year starter for very good teams in one of the top conferences in the country. He was also one of the best centers in the NFL for years. People acting like an undrafted second year guy is necessarily going to be better than him is wishful thinking at best.

Maybe because they like what they are seeing out of Costa.

I'm not going to bash Gurode I hate to see him go but I do think the coaches have confidence in Costa to do the job

Or they really like the youth they have there instead and have decided it was time to move on.

People have been saying they'd like to see us do more like the Patriots (now by people I don't mean everyone here obviously) and cut loose players BEFORE they go downhill, like Marc did. Well this is one of those types of moves.

You may be on to something. But don't forget there will be a few folks released around the league very soon.

I think the defensive side gets a pass given that they are expected to learn a completely new (and from accounts, complex) scheme. The offense will be utilizing the same framework that it has for the past couple of years. The only difference is that now the OC/HC has a greater influence on who his personnel will be than his predecessor.

I think the big difference is the play. I think Dalls loves what they see from Smith, Nagy, Costa, right now. I think Dallas and the coaching staff believes they will be better much better on the O-line, this allowed them to do this.

The defense, well we already see Igor replaced, and if younger guys are just as good, or better they will also take over spots, the question is are there defenders on the roster to PUSH THEM.

I think this is a move for now and the future. I think a lot of people are going to be suprised how this O-Line plays despite the inexperience, JG is putting his best 5 out there, I truly believe that. He has said he is going to do that, and he is sticking to his beliefs.

Garrett said himself, We are making a effort to look at everyone from equal footing, no matter if you are a rookie, no matter your contract, and no matter if you where drafted or not, he wants the best players and right guys on the field. Personally, I LOVE IT!!

Philly's offensive line is so bad, I would be kind of surprised if he didnt end up there, unless he's still got eagle hate after being a Cowboy for so long.

I think they could have gotten SOMETHING for him, if he didnt announce it on live TV Saturday maybe they could have called some teams but I dont agree with cutting him outright at all. I just dont trust this new Kowalski kid, Costa wont be ready until after week one.

I love getting younger but that is a bit too young, too fast for me and for Romo's health. Really hope this works out, they should have made the move earlier so we could have seen the kid more.

The eagles will not sign Gurode. They love their rookie C and Jamal Jackson is backing him up.

However, I'm merely a fan, and I only think year-to-year. I want the Cowboys to field the most competitive team possible each season -- an approach that isn't always in the best long-term interest of the team.

I'm beginning to think that Garrett has assessed this team's potential, and concluded that it isn't playoff-caliber. Consequently, he's making decision to become competitive in future seasons.

It doesn't bother me that we made this kind of move, it's that we made 3 of this kind of move with one unit in one year, which leaves us with a hell of a lot of inexperience protecting Romo.

Maybe you're right. I hope so, but in 2 weeks we'll be facing a guy who will throw everything he's got at these young guys and and he won't care if Romo's leg gets broken in the process. IMO somebody has to be coming in.

I think he's addressing next season and the seasons thereafter, like you said.

But I think he thinks we can be competitive this season as well.
