I'm all for the youth movement, but I would have liked to have gotten something for him. I would have taken a 5th or 6th. I just have to assume that the team got on the phone to let other teams know he was available for trade and no team showed any interest.

Gurode would have full veto powers in any trade. It would have had to have been agreeable to ALL parties involved, not just the two teams.

Money definitely has an impact, but Gurode was NOT cut solely because of money. He was cut because we have a logjam of offensive lineman and he is older, out of shape, his play is starting to lag, and FINALLY he makes way more money.

If anything, he was the obvious cut. Someone had to go and Arkin, Costa, Nagy, and now even Kowalski have all shown that they can play in this league.

Between him and Kowlski, the dollars got in the way. That is the reason Gurode was cut. Garrett probably said I would rather have Gurode, but I can make due with Kowlski (or Nagy) at center. I think it was almost a done deal that Costa was going to take Gurode's spot.

Agreed, this is part of what I'm trying to say, some are acting like this is JG putting his imprint on the Cowboys when it's not.

In Jerry's pocket. This is a JJ inspired bottom line move, I keep telling everyone who'll listen that Jerry's cash flow is low. He hasn't signed a free agent of any significance in the last 2 years and coincidentally that's when the stadium opened. The economy has taken a bad turn and it's even worst for JJ. People see this as a change in philosophy but it maybe as simple as saving a few bucks against the payroll.

So we should overpay for Huff and Weddle? Did you see the amount of money they received? You would of then complained we overpayed.

The rest of the safties available were all the same....btw....alot of FA this year were 3rd tier.

I would have thought that it would take a couple of years to reshape the line rather than do it in one year. People talk about rebuilding but I think that we can win right now so I really don't like the rebuilding talk.

The problem with this thinking is it only considers one side of the equation. You also have to consider who is available to replace him. I loe the youth movement, but we are banking an awful lot on guys that haven't proven a single thing in the NFL.

I wouldn't get worked up over Gurode alone, but losing all but one long time starter makes it tough on the entire O-liine, and with him changing positions, and with the other veteran starter only in his 2nd year as a starter makes, that's pretty tough. The only other player with any experience is Holland, who has a long and well documented history of not keeping in shape and who has sat on the bench for 3 year. I think every one of the old guys we let go were ready, but losing all 3 at once leaves us with zero or next to zero experience in a lot of starting spots and in the backups.
