Gus Johnson

Gus Johnson is one of the best play by play analyst out there... I think he's what the NFL needs.

:hammer:

I love they way he commentates the game. Gets me excited. I could listen to him all season long over Buck and Aikman.

He also does the new Madden and he is great.

NFL needs more Gus Johnson!

Gus is excellent. Probably the best college bball guy out there. He's also a top tier NFL guy IMO. Sure he may bring too much emotion at times but that's his schtick. I'm telling you, the guy has some of the best college bball calls of all time particularly during March Madness.

I think Gus and Ian Eagle are 2 of the best out there right now. Unfortunately they're stuck calling AFC games on CBS where maybe 20-25% of the nation is watching.

Gus always brings the enthusiasm sometimes too much but if you want to complain about anyone on the broadcast last night it would be Phil Simms. He is terrible.

Love me some Gus.

He always gets stuck with the B-list games in the NFL though. He needs to be doin the A-listers.

What is a play by play analyst? :laugh2:

it's one or the other

Gus could narrate a video of someone ordering from McDonald's and make it enjoyable.

The guy is a living legend.

Yep, you can tell the guy is a real football enthusiast....

He was pretty good but what was he wearing? He looked like he was wearing the Joker suit from TDK. :laugh1:

Interesting variety of responses. Glad some of you really like him.

Keep him a million miles away from any NFL game I'm watching. I don't need someone who thinks they can make ordering at McDonalds exciting. I already know what is exciting for me, and that is not it. No amount of WOOOWWW!!! is going to make it so. It will simply annoy the heck out of me.

Emotion for a buzzer beater in March Madness? Perfectly appropriate! For an NFL pre-season game? Not so much.

Different strokes I guess. :)

To each his own... I'd rather have Gus Johnson over Joe Buck anyday of the year and twice on Sundays.

:laugh2:

I loved him. Too many of these guys now are bland or try to push their agenda/bias in the game. Buck is both. Can't stand him.

When Buck calls a game and the Eagles score, you can hear him get excited, "McNabb back, pump fakes, deep INTO THE ENDZONE! TOUCHDOWN BRENT CELEK!!!!" Whereas when the other teams scores you hear him with a simple, "Touchdown. Witten."

It's okay to get excited, and Gus does that without showing any favoritism for either team. You can tell he just loves football. The dude was still into it when Ogletree scored, where other announcers would have dialed out of the preseason game by then. I hope he gets a number 1 gig soon instead of being stuck on a b-team. He seems like a really classy guy, making sure to say how much of an honor it was to call a game with Phil Simms at the end.

I'd rather have Gus' over the top playcalling than Joe Buck's monotone announcing like he did when Tyree made that helmet catch. Dude was calling it like it was the 4th week of an early afternoon game that was in the 3rd quarter.

You could argue that Gus is better than anyone Fox has right now. The ONLY thing Buck has going for him is he seems to have a nice chemistry with Troy. Kenny Albert is the exact opposite of Gus Johnson. When i hear his voice i just want to roll over and take a nap. Dick Stockton seemingly doesn't know what time of day it is with all the mistakes he makes during a game.

What did you guys think of him?

This the NFL pre-season, not the NCAA Tournament. Was he a Texans homer or something? Why was he so excited? It sounded like a young sportscaster getting his first shot at announcing by doing an NAIA game on the college's radio station.

Wait a second--are we talking about that horrible announcer doing the Texans game with Phil Simms? He made Phil seem like an unbiased genius. Anyone that can do that has some kind of talent....

I'm not a fan of Mr. Johnson. He could actually be good if he had better timing or feel for the moment though. You listen to a guy like Al Michaels and he isn't freaking out over every first down or nice play. He knows exactly when to hard sell something. That's the difference in coming off as amateurish and truly professional.

If I don't care about either team he is good. But his call was downright painful to listen to last Saturday night.

did not like him because his inflection is annoying and i noticed him--I liked the old days when announcers weren't part of the game--guys Gus just state the obvious over and over in overly dramatic fashion :bang2:

I cannot figure out why fans obsess over football announcers so much.

I hardly hear them.
