The more I watch Petty, the less I see him as an NFL QB. He looks like a system guy to me. Maybe I should stop watching Baylor games.

Agreed. Literally almost every single one of his successful throws is just a touch pass over the D on a go-route to one of his speedy receivers. He struggles whenever he's forced to make tight throws into actual windows. He's struggles against good defenses (i.e. Texas and OSU). He's good at those touch throws down the field, I'll give him that, but I think he will be exposed at the next level with his inability to throw into windows.

Bryce Petty | Quarterback
Team: Baylor Bears
Age / DOB: (23) / 5/31/1991
Ht / Wt: 6'3' / 230

LATEST NEWS
RECENT NEWS

Baylor redshirt senior QB Bryce Petty completed 28-of-55 throws for 510 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions in Baylor's 61-58 win over TCU on Saturday.
Petty made an awful decision early in the third quarter on a scramble when he tried to force the ball into coverage and was instead picked off. Shortly thereafter, TCU kicked a field goal to increase their lead to 34-27 (a touchdown was called back on a penalty). That mistake, however, wasn't quite as bad as the pick-6 that Petty threw with 11:38 left in the game. Though Petty's overall numbers were pretty, this was not the best game for his draft evaluation. Petty is often schemed into clean pockets, clear passing windows, and open receivers. Against mediocre defenses, he generally has huge games. Today, when it mattered, he played amazing. But in the first half, he struggled to even connect with open receivers. Versus NFL talent, his accuracy and decision-making process tend to vacillate. He probably should have entered the draft early after last season. Oct 11 - 8:11 PM

Cause he struggles with anything but bombs. Hence why I hope we don't draft him, or any other QB this year for that matter. Spend every pick on the defense and maybe one pick on the OL. Then, draft a QB the next year if need be.

He's not perfect but he's got the intangibles of guts, heart and leadership. Physically he's near prototype perfect, mechanically his footwork isn't his best attribute, but that can be improved.

Hopefully they dont draft him. I a real early pet cat but i am ver impressed by what I've seen so far personally but he wont be eligible for another couple of years but he is a true freshamn right now QB Clemson Deshaun Watson... Man if you have seen him play the way he throws the ball its like the ball goes exactly where he ment to throw it and he's real good accurate from the games i've watched...So since Tony is gonna be here another 2-3 yrs at least we can hold off on his replacement continue to build the team and untill he becomes eligible. I know its 2 yrs away but to me his upside is quite impressive to me for what i've seen so far from a true freshman and he's who im rooting for to be Tony's succesor if we even have a chance to get him.. but thats on down the line

In addition to Petty, Mannion (Oregon St) and Cook (Mich St) also interest me tremendously in the second to third rounds, possibly even in the later first. We're overdue in picking up a youngster and its going to cost us a high draft pick but in the bigger scheme of things…no QB = no team in this league.

Unless Romo gets hurt again I don't see us drafting a QB this year. However, if we do Cook from Mich St. really interests me. He seems to have all the tools, the arm is strong enough, and he very accurate ... all according to my untrained eye.

This isn't the year to draft a QB anyway, but I don't want any part of Petty.

Cook, Mannion, and Carden later would probably be the only guys I'd think about.

I really hope we are looking at Tayson Hill. I don't know if he will come out this year but he's the guy I really like.

I like Tayson Hill's athleticism and leadership also, but he's definitely not coming out this year because of his nasty injury. But, three reasons why I don't think we consider him:

1. He still struggles as a passer at times. As much as he's improved, he still needs to continue to develop in that area.

2. He just tore all the major ligaments in his knee, along with breaking his leg. Dr's had to insert a plate and 8 screws into his leg and he's expected to be out 8-12 months. this all depends on how he recovers obviously.

3. He's a 24 year old Jr right now. He'll turn 25 right before his Sr. season, which means he'd be a 26 year old rookie when his first season started in the NFL. That's older than you'd like for your rookie QB.

I don't think anybody knows what Hill will do after this season. He could come out or he may stay, it's hard to say at this point. You don't think his agent and Hill, himself understand the age issue as well? They do. As far as his ability to pass the ball, I don't buy that. He's as good as I've seen at QB this year. Your not going to get a guy in the 1st round who is the number 1 or 2 rated QB in the draft. You are going to have to draft somebody you can develop. I really like Hill and I hope we are looking at him.

I don't want anything to do with Petty to be quite honest.

He plays in the Big 12 where there is virtually no defense and he plays in a spread offense.

I'm sorry but I just don't see him translating to the NFL at all.

If the opportunity presents itself, Connor Cook or Brett Hundley should be carefully considered as a potential early pick.
A wildcard QB selection at this time is Sean Mannnion from Oregon State -- if he declares and falls to the 2nd or 3rd round, he should be explored as the selection.

Romo's continual health issues in conjunction with the management's constant complete disregard of preparing for and grooming his replacement is troubling.
The team is at least developing some young players -- it is about time to do the same with the QB position.

Connor Cook is my guy if he comes out. Easily my favorite college QB prospect in the past couple years. Unfortunately I think that if he does come out, he'll be a top 15 pick, especially with 4 or so teams likely needing a QB this draft. There's also a solid chance he returns for his Sr year at Michigan State.

He'd be nuts not to turn pro this year, it's a pretty crappy group of QB's he would be compared too. Cook might be considered second best right now meaning someone is bound to reach for him.

I have been on the Conner Cook wagon since last year if we go QB in the 1 st round

but I been looking at the guy Marcus Mariota beat out

Bryan Bennett, QB Southeastern Louisiana 6-2 #215

STRENGTHS: Talented athlete with the foot quickness in the pocket to avoid rushers and the elusive scrambling ability to improvise in the blink of an eye with his legs. Does a nice job running the option and displays excellent vision, instincts and toughness as a ballcarrier.

As a passer, has solid mechanics and follow-through with a snap delivery to get the ball out in a flash. He displays quick eyes and a speedy process once he decides to pull the trigger. Has shown improved touch and controls his ball speed well.

Despite thriving in a spread attack rarely under center, runs the offense like a field general and plays with controlled urgency to make plays happen. He is a gritty and confident competitor on and off the field, checking a lot of boxes for scouts in the intangibles department

Bennett arrived at Oregon as the assumed successor to Darron Thomas in Chip Kelly's explosive offense. But a young quarterback by the name of Marcus Mariota changed all that, winning the starting job in 2012 and forcing Bennett to choose between changing positions or transferring out of Eugene. After 83 career pass attempts over his three seasons with the Ducks, Bennett decided to transfer to FCS-level Southeastern Louisiana last season.

Bennett collected numerous awards and accolades in 2013 for the Lions after leading the team in both rushing (1,046 rush yards) and passing (3,165 pass yards
