Let me say a few things so nobody thinks I am pretending to be a know-it-all. (I am far from it) So....here we go:

I do not follow college football closely.
I am not a pro scout, nor am I a QB guru.

But I saw a list earlier today about QBs that may be available for Dallas to take. I think this list was on Pro Football Talk...but I went back again to look at it and I couldnt find it. So maybe I saw it elsewhere. But anyway, on this list, Bryce Petty was listed #1.

So I just started googling this kid and reading what people involved in football were saying about him. And then I watched a few of his interviews. And I watched a great interview with his family. All describing the kid and just sharing a lot of info about what he's been through. It really left me thinking that he is very well-grounded, smart, good values, everything was just very impressive. I am not comparing their football talent, but everything else reminds me of the Manning boys- Minus having a dad that was an NFL QB.

So for you guys that all watch college football alot....I'd like to get opinions about where he will be taken in the draft. 2nd rounder? 3rd rounder? I am VERY impressed with him.

As of right now there is no clear cut #4 QB in this class. The #1 and #2 (mariota/winston) will both more than likely go in the top 15 barring disaster, and #3 (Hundley) will most likely go somewhere before the end of the 2nd. After those 3 its a toss up of who the next best QB in this class is and even more of a toss up where they get drafted. There are always teams that are going to reach on QB's though so if Petty doesn't hurt his stock anywhere he's probably looking anywhere from 3rd-5th round depending on how he looks in workouts/the combine.

With all that said....I hope he's as smart and as nice of a guy as you say because I don't see him as much of an NFL QB. He'll probably stick somewhere as a backup for a while, but being a starting NFL QB doesn't seem to be likely.....all my opinion of course.

-Just have a hunch. I think this is the draft we finally grab Romo's successor. Mariota will be gone in the top 3 and Winston is a classic example of a million-dollar arm and a ten cent head. Don't think the Cowboys bite. Brett Hundley's an option also, but I think Jerrah will favor Petty because he's a natural leader and a classy, stand-up kid. Plus the Texas connection. Petty's projected to be a late 1st-early 2nd rounder so he'd be easier to be had.

-Personally, I think Petty's a bit overrated and his stats are inflated by the spread offense he plays in, but I wouldn't be opposed to it.

-What say you? In favor of Petty, or would you rather go with someone else? Or wait another year?

I would wait. Baylor QBs are notorious for having issues making reads and running a full scale playbook.

I would as soon use the draft choice elsewhere on the roster and wait another year to get a more pro-ready QB.

This isn't the year to draft a QB anyway, but I don't want any part of Petty.

Cook, Mannion, and Carden later would probably be the only guys I'd think about.

Cook won't be in this draft.

Mannion scares me a little bit. His completion percentage does not tell the whole story, his footwork and mechanics are very inconsistent and the reports from Sr. Bowl practices were nightmarish.

Carden looks like he needs a lot of work.

This is just an awful QB draft.

Thats fair. Like I said...I am not pretending to be a QB coach or pro scout. But seeing and hearing about this kid, I am impressed. He seems to be a natural leader with a great background and a football junkie. But I realize that the # 1 thing is talent on the field and I cannot judge that as I am not smart enough.

Yea I agree, especially after the year we had. I created this thread a while ago, I fell differently now. Hoping we hold off on a QB until next year. I think Petty is not a franchise QB.

Depends on who is doing the projection I have seen any where from 2nd to 3rd rd. 3rd I would be alright with it 1st I think would be a mistake.

These QB's scare me. Mannion 54 picks in career. Hundley sacked 123 times. Petty.........Looks like Henson plays like him too.

Of the 2nd tier guys Grayson looks the safest, but Red's brother was Mannion's OC. I'd rather try to develop Vaughn vs anything I see this year.

I'm interested why so many people think QB is such a high priority. Yes, we will need to start grooming a QB at some stage to eventually replace Romo. However, with his new contract, and the related salary cap hit. I cannot see a high draft pick going on a QB next year. And frankly, I would be pissed if they did ! I think Weeden can be an effective bridge to our next signal caller, and we have a young QB we are grooming already - so why, if Romo has another 3-4 years as the primary QB would you tie up a 1st or 2nd round pick, when those recourses MUST go to the defense. Injury would be the only reason a QB picked in this draft coming up would ever sniff the field, and with how the new found running game seams to be allowing Romo time to completely heal (Don't think he is quite there yet). We can clearly see what a dominant OL has completely changed the whole outlook/identity of our team - so why on gods green earth would we not choose to turn those same resources to the defense ?

finally, someone with a football brain!!!

Sign mark Sanchez as back up and don't waste a high pick on a QB

Wait next for year for Hackenberg or Cook (if he forgoes this draft)

Don't think this QB class is all that great. No depth after Winston and Mariotta. And I'm not too high on Mariotta either.

Not as a high pick. I think he is a perfect candidate to be a QB that we can groom. He has ability. He needs work.

In addition to Petty, Mannion (Oregon St) and Cook (Mich St) also interest me tremendously in the second to third rounds, possibly even in the later first. We're overdue in picking up a youngster and its going to cost us a high draft pick but in the bigger scheme of things…no QB = no team in this league.

Connor Cook is returning to MSU and will not be in the 2015 draft. I like him a lot in the 2016 draft though
