I just picked a copy of Athlon's and they have an article about the ten gutsiest draft choices in the history of the draft.

They list what they feel were the picks, whether or not they worked, that took the most nerve to make...like Willis McGahee for instance.

So rather than recap the article, how about you post what you think were gutsy draft choices.

:)

Quincy Carter.

FA pick up, DAT DUDE :puke:

Interesting. QC would have been a good choice for their article.

I agree about QC, taking him in the 2nd just so Jerry could sign him to a 5-year deal

this is a good question, I can't really think of any

Moss should be up there.

hmm, good one

passing on Moss to take Kevin Dyson, because Dyson was a much lesser character concern

and much lesser WR

The Cowboys drafting Roger Staubach in 1964 knowing they he would have to wait four to five years for him to honor his Naval commitment. He joined the team in 1969.

As far as I am concerned that took guts. :)

Are stupid and gutsiest used interchangebly in this discussion?

Just for some sort of guidelines.

Nope. It could be a gutsy choice that worked out well. I think McGahee is an example of that.

I would suppose he wasn't listed because they used a fairly low choice to select him

Funny thing about Dat Dude was nobody thought it was a risk at the time. Hadn't he had a ton of sacks in SD before he got here? Talk about a round peg in a square hole...

At least in terms of Cowboys lore, I'd say using the supplemental pick for Steve Walsh was one of the bigger risks the team's ever taken... I would say it completely backfired, but it did allow the team to wait and take Emmitt in the draft the next year...

For some reason, the Bills and John McCargo was the first thing I thought of when I opened this bad boy.

Oh and trading away for JuJo instead of picking up Steven Jackson. Not once since that happened has it seemed like a good idea.

You would think trading an entire draft for Ricky Williams would be there somewhere.

I guess the fact they took him in the 10th round could be considered not very risky.

was Curtis Martin on there, since he had torn his ACL in the first game of his senior year?

I'll take another guess....The Vikes selecting Randy Moss...w/his not so good rep

during his college days.
