If this team is going to have any chance then some of the previously picked players are going to have to contribute. 3rd and 4th round picks must be a part of your team or else you end up with gaping holes.

Chaz Green - If he doesn't end up being the answer at RT then this team will suffer for it. It is horrible watching so many players picked after him make major contributions to their team while he does nothing. What he did last year wont matter if he ends up being the answer at RT.

Damien Wilson - This LB corp is already not good but if Wilbur and Mcclain are gone then it becomes extremely thin. Gachkar isn't providing much either and his salary is pretty large for a non contributor so I wouldn't be surprised if he is cut too. Wilson has to step up.

Hithens - same as Wilson. These two LB's need to prove to be at least good situational players and one of them needs to be a starter. I am of the mind that we will be drafting a LB early but one of these two needs to step up.

Gregory - Gregory needs to make the type of leap that DLAW made this year. It looks like Hardy and Mincey are going to be gone so Gregory is going to be counted on as a big part of the Dline.

Someone needs to step up at TE or else we will have to spend another draft pick on one next year. Escobar(whenever he comes back or Swaim or Hanna if re-signed needs to show that life after Witten is not barren).

If these guys can step up then the number of holes the team has is manageable. If not, this team is going nowhere.

I think that if we just get lucky on the injury front (like we did in 2014), we should be in good shape.

The front office will undoubtedly pick up a running back in free agency. That would take some of the load off of McFadden and Romo.

Unfortunately, I think our success next year will, again, solely depend on Tony Romo. Shore up some of the holes on defense and get a running back, and given that Romo stays healthy, this team should be in good shape in 2016.

There's about 50+ players that need to step up next year.

Also, I don't ever get the feeling that the team is always prepared and disciplined. When I watch other teams play, they almost always have second and third string guys stepping up and playing well...teaching!!

I'm not sure what Red Ball's role is on this staff? Where's the teaching so role players get some time on the field? Why isn't there trust in our rookies and role players?

The coaching staff needs to step up big time! More so than the players!

It would be a much shorter list if you asked who doesn't need to step up. 4-12 everyone, players and coaches alike.

Coming off a 4-12 season there's a lot of guys who need to step up.
Yep.

I don't think there's a player on the roster who doesn't need to play better if we want to be a contender.

In defense of Jerry, we can never really say for sure. I mean Jerry and the Cowboys (now valued about 1BB more than any other franchise)may have done just fine if that pesky salary cap hadn't been implemented.

In criticism of Jerry, he was the guy that really got that salary cap going.

Cowboys have always been most valuable franchise and that started because of Landry and has remained that way in spite of not because of Jerry.

re the cap it doesnt matter if you spend the most (ie Philly dream team, Commanders) but who you get. Jimmy knew the talent (probably because he had just come from college teams). Jimmy built those teams and Jerry has just proved over the last 20 years he sucks at it (Quincy, Pittman, Carver, LaFleur, Goodrich, Julius, etc). I've alway hated the cap. NFL didnt put it in. It was put in by the owners because they cant control their own spending.

Nice post, although it shouldn't be forgotten, especially in the case of Gregory, that rookies have not gone through a full NFL offseason strength program.

All too many mid-round picks don't pan out for this team. I get that the odds of hitting are low, but you have to sometimes, because other teams do.

I can see a guy like Wilson becoming a huge surprise next season, the better question may be...does he get the chance.

Not sure what to think about Hitchens. He proved his rookie year his not a bust.
Wilson needs more time
Gregory I dont worry about
Ryan Russell needs to become a factor also

the coaching staff could do better.

Gregory and Chaz Green are the key guys IMO. Green would complete the OL and Gregory emerging would help solidify the DL.
