Besides Max Unger?

Last year we had a jism for QB John David Booty accd. to Stephen Jones, but he got pulled off the board before our pick.

This year I was watching the draft room cam and Jerry went into a temper tantrum, shaking his xeroxed draft list in front of him violently :) right when Deon Butler, WR, Penn State was picked late in the third round. We had the first pick in the fourth round as you all know.

There was a big run of WRs around there, including four straight WRs from picks 82 to 85. My thought is that Ciskowski and Jerry figured one of those guys would be around for us. Instead, gone in a flash were Derrick Williams, Brandon Tate, Mike Wallace, Ramses Barden, and Deon Butler. Iglesias went too at 99, but that was after Jerry had his fit.

Thinking that Stephen McGee would have been picked by us at 110 instead of 101 if there had been one of our targeted WRs at 101.

My Q is, has anybody heard any guys that slipped through our fingers? I don't think any media asked this of Jerry at the post-draft news conference. Nice job, guys.

Rashad Johnson. We could of had him..just sitting there. Instead we pick up Robert Brewster, who will be another JAG drafted lineman to add to our collection.

But, but he was rated a top 100 by bloggers that supported our draft and stuff.

Worse than a JAG, ....another project. This one is soft and has mudslide cankles from his crash diet.

101 Cowboys QB Stephen McGee

Williams would have been my pick but I guess they weren't trading up. Tate is bad news I think. Butler I just don't know enough. Iglesias is likely not better than some of the lower echelon guys we have.

Now Johnson may prove to be a better pick than Hamlin but we don't really know that. My guess is they had their safeties already picked out and McGee was the higher rated player. Obviously.

I happen to agree with the McGee pick. We have long overlooked drafting QBs and we'd still be looking for one if not lucking out on Romo. Or using a Testaverde or Bledsoe and limping on. We are much more likely to find a QB drafting them than believing we are going to find one in FA.

I'm sorry, why is Brewster a project?

Is it just because you hadn't heard of him before the draft?

I wish the Cowboys would have drafted Mike Thomas. I think he's gonna be a player. He's got a little steve smith in him and we don't have anyone like him on our roster.

Gosselin and Gil Brandt are just bloggers that supported our draft?

How could a guy nicknamed "Goose" and a man who's pushing 80 have more credibility than someone who works for ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports?

Nick Eatman talked to Brett Maxie in the second round about safeties including Rashad Johnson. They never were interested in Rashad Johnson because they think he is strictly a nickel safety. Nick also asked him who was available that they did like at safety and he said Michael Hamlin.

It should have been clear who we were interested in among the safeties.

We loved Delmas, liked Hamlin and also Chris Clemons (the Clemson safeties) and were lukewarm on White. Rashad Johnson was never even mentioned. It might be a case where he wasn't a fit.

And if what Maxie is saying here is how we felt, then I don't understand how we could have "missed" if we never wanted him to begin with. The ones that bother me are the near misses that we have nearly every year where we weren't aggressive in going after them, like Unger for example.

Well I think the original premise of the OP was to ask which ones did we miss that the cowboys targeted.

Either people misunderstood or just decided to go off of the OP topic and start talking about who we missed that THEY wanted and not the cowboys.

Outstanding rue thread... Maybe there'll be room on the billboard for all our draft near-misses.

Unger's the one for me.

I think he was a key 'get' given the Cowboys' two kickers plan.

A lineman with his versatility would have been a huge plus.

Greg Jennings and Daryn Colledge spring to mind as near misses of years' past.

I'd prefer the team be agressive all the time when they see a player they really like.
