Guyton and Steele

I have no problem moving smith to LT, but I do not know if steele can play left anything. Too late to move steele to rg now. If Guyton can't beat out asim this year then he just needs to sit on the bench and learn to be a swing tackle this year.

He's gonna get benched

If you wanted to boil the Dallas Cowboys season down to one thing it would be OT play. If they stink it will wreck the whole thing. If they are good this team will make the playoffs.

To be honest, I thought Smith at LT was a possibility when they drafted Booker, who was a LG in college.

Then I figured they would flip Guyton to the right side and make Steele either the swing tackle or trade bait. Then they could figure out RG with Hoffman or Bass or Charles.

But the fact it's Guyton or bust at LT means the line is going to stay as it is.

Simple. To keep the QB upright. It isn't ideal. I want to see the current starting OL enter the season as-is. That would mean they have shown the ability to protect the QB. If Guyton regresses (my biggest concern on that line. Questionable work ethic and character coming out of college), we could be looking a liability protecting the blindside of a now injury prone QB. That is a problem. Smith had some penalties, but has shown he can man LT if necessary. If the options are either allowing Guyton to find his rhythm and opening Dak up for injury, or shuffling the line, losing a bit in the run game but solidifying the bookends, I'm going with the latter. I don't expect Guyton to play as an all-pro this year, but we really need to see some improvement before declaring that the line is set.
So, you want to create an extreme weakness inside instead?

Moving Tyler makes zero sense.

Are playing out of position, IMO. We need to kick Tyler Smith out to LT, move Steele to LG, and move Guyton out to RT, where he played in college. Steele is a turnstile at RT and we all know it. If both of these don’t pan in theses new positions, thet won’t pan out period.
Imo just let the coaches do their job. Sit back and be a fan and enjoy the season.

Bass and Hoffman are good options to plug and play at G IF NECESSARY. They proved as much last season. I'm proposing a redistribution of talent across the line to supplement a potential major problem at tackle to keep the highest paid player in the NFL on the field.

You are correct on Tyler Smith.

This has been discussed about 75 times and I'm going to tell you how I responded each time we'll leave it up to the coaches you're not a coach you're not a professional of any kind in the Pro Football game we know this If they decide they want to do this and it's the right move they will but you're not reminding any coaching Staffs and a front office full of people who've been putting rosters together their whole lives that you think you've thought of something they never thought of and it hasn't been discussed in here to nauseam let them figure it out this is a brand new coaching staff with a very experienced offensive coordinator who used to be an offensive line coach and an offensive line coach who should be better Evaluating talent than our last one and especially from the fan base.

fans constantly do this,

they think that they know something that coaching staff hasn't thought of or won't do or decides not to do for good reason All the professionals in here are wasting their talents you should really try to purchase your own team be your own GM and put the roster together anyway you seem fit.....
Agree. Let this group of coaches handle everything and build this season up front. Let's go. It's a good group on this team. Top and bottom a team.

Shotty is letting the OL practice without knee braces.

OL coach is letting it happen too.

I’m sure Stephen would tell us that Guyton and Steele have to “want to get better” at their positions. Stephen…the guy who’s never earned anything in his life.
He's hung in there through thick and thin and took care of most gambles needed. I respect his part of the team and handling the needs.

I say thanks!

He has paid for his part of the load to include playing well through college at Arkansas. They are respectable themselves.

Myself, I'm not crying about the real toughening up process. They are forging tough and not starting out beyond taping a salt tablets on things and owning crying instead. They are learning how to survive through the year.

Let's get some forehead sweat going and strengthen this whole line...

In addition to Adeniji, Walker mentioned that Asim Richards and Ajani Cornelius will rotate in behind. 2024 seventh-round pick Nate Thomas, another camp standout, is a candidate for reps, but he has seen some work at right guard in camp.

The 27-year-old can play both tackle and guard spots and he has impressed early on in training camp.

What may give Cowboys fans pause about the idea - other than his lack of starting experience - is that there's been no mention of Adeniji playing left tackle in Oxnard. He finished Friday's practice at right tackle with the starters with Terence Steele resting his ankle. The coaching staff is putting a lot of faith in Adeniji’s ability to smoothly transition to the opposite side of the line.

I've never understood the argument to play Guyton at RT since its his natural position, but then also kick Steele inside to a position hes never played before. Why not minimize the positional change and leave these guys alone? Moving Guyton back to the right side after training the last year and a half to play on the left side probably does more harm than good right now. You're also taking a top 5 Guard in the league and rolling the dice on a new position. Granted he could probably be fine at Tackle, his biggest downfall is that he can be a penalty machine...throw him outside and there is a good chance we see that.

Just let these guys play the positions they've been at and let them get some continuity. Honestly I don't think left side vs right side makes much of a difference once you've been on a particular side for a year plus.
Wrong. It's like riding a bike if you move him back to his college position of RT. It's a no brainer. What's hard to understand in leaving dudes where they belong? Why move them? I trust this oline coach to get it right. Let's see what the starting line up looks like come week 1.

I'm gonna die on this hill if you will, but Cooper Bebee should have stayed at LG., and Hoffman should be our center. Tyler Smith our LT. I'm sorry but our best 5 from left to right: Smith, CB, HOFFMAN, Booker, Guyton (if healthy). I feel we are forcing a square peg into a round hole making these guys move positions. Guyton clearly isn't a LT. My hope is the new staff sees this and gets it right. It's not rocket science, especially if you forget where these guys were drafted, and simply put the best 5 on the field. It's not hard.

Ok, so how many linemen are you prepared to be without for the Philly game?

Sorry, man. I do see your point, but materially speaking, what actually matters is having guys available.

I want tough mindsets just as much as you. I just don’t want them at the expense of healthy ligaments and bones…

He was a LT in college. They moved him to the right side at Oklahoma to protect the QB blindside.

Agree to disagree, but that's OK. Personally I look at it as Guyton has spent the last year and a half retraining his muscle memory for the left side. I think switching sides on the fly is one of the more difficult moves to make. If you wanted to move him over to RT at the start of next offseason then fine, but this late is just setting him up for failure IMO.

Another thing to note with Guyton is the guy is left handed. That can be beneficial to have your dominant hand on the outside as a T.

And the point was, he thrived there. He played elite at RT.
This is where I would disagree. He certainly had a solid year at Oklahoma, all conference honorable mention confirms that, but elite? Most draft profiles knocked him on his run blocking. PFF game him a 72 pass block grade, 62 in run blocking. I haven't watched a ton of Oklahoma film from 2023 so maybe PFF is way off here and i'm in the wrong, but it he really played to an elite level he would likely have been a higher end prospect. His draft status seemed to be more tied to his RAS score which was crazy good. I think he was like a top 30 RAS guy going back to the 80s.
