Guyton looks good

Man, I hear something different from every other person in the media who talks about Guyton. Who the hell knows. I was optimistic but he'll probably be marginally better than last year. I just hope he can stay on the field because most of what I'm hearing about Thomas and Shelton is not good.

If they can get a player with Thomas' power and Shelton's athelticism they'd have something. Thomas is a road grader but he moves like his feet are in cement blocks. Meanwhile Shelton moves like a tight end but gets bull rushed too often.

Spot on.

The few short clips of Guyton i saw he looked fast, and under control. Waiting to hear how he held up in mondays padded practice. Im holding out hope for this young man.
Been the biggest surprise so far in camp...@ least he got himself in shape. No more soft dough boy. He actually looks like a dude you don't want to mess with...1st guy off the bus kinda guy.

Yup.

They passed on Lomu and Trost in the draft, though.

Jerry is stubborn.

They showed a clip of him totally smothering Overshown, Jesse Holley reported on it on his page, he said it's one thing he's worried about (Overshown) uhh, good job though to Guyton keep it up
And I saw a clip of Guyton handling His business against other players as well He seems to be playing solid so far but his problem hasn't been that it's been inconsistencies he'll have some of those games where he looks really strong and then he'll have a bunch of games where he's getting beat like a drum..

Remember a few years back was it his rookie year he handled Miles Garrett pretty well Probably his best game as a pro.. If we can find that somewhere in between that game and what he's been doing and get some consistency out of them I'm not worried We should trust Adams he'll get it worked out..

The way I'm seeing it, at least on TV, is that Guyton either doesn't know his technique that well or isn't confident in it. He looks awkward and choppy, because he's thinking while he's playing.

I play golf, and I see people do it with their swings all the time. There's 100 thoughts going through their head every time they take a shot. "Keep your head down", "keep your weight between your feet", "hands ahead of the club"... they try to track everything at once, and then they just awkwardly chunk their 7 iron into the ground.

On every rep he takes, Guyton looks like he's thinking "flat back", "wide base", "left foot back first", stuff like that. And then when he thinks about hand placement on the defender's pads, then Myles Garrett bull rushes him in the chest and all those plans go to hell.

Guyton started 13 college games, and practiced offensive line at D-1 for 2 seasons. He's now a 3rd year NFL vet, but by game reps, he has about as as much experience as a college senior. So iffy technique isn't surprising, but he's got work to do to make it up.

Can he make it up? Does he really want to do the work to make it up? Was he just gonna suck anyway? I don't know the answer. We expected that he was going to be raw, but so far, he's been a lot rawer than we hoped for.
Is this from last season or something you have seen from this years camp?

Nice point about having to think while playing. It’s gotta become second nature before all that long or it’s never gonna happen.

This is the revisionist history that makes me probably overly critical at times of a guy like Guyton. There is no way a human being actually watched Guyton in that game and came away with the impression that he handled Garrett well. I truly don't understand why we try to pretend like Guyton has ever been a good player to this point in his career. Is he young enough and physically gifted enough to not throw the towel in on? Absolutely. Was he anything but a liability in the Cleveland game? Total liability, and has been for the majority of games hes played in so far.

Three firsts and a third on a five man unit, and it’s still arguably the weakest unit on the team. Not good.

Same unit that keeps your QB out of surgery.
