4:00 PM Eastern which is 6 hours and 45 minutes from now.

If he doesn't have a long term deal by then, he is playing this year at the Franchise tender.

I think it will happen. Both sides will be motivated today to get that deal done before the deadline.

As I mentioned in another thread, I don't want to go into 2009 looking for two new safities.

I hope so Hostile, but I am starting to worry that Hamlin is holding out for huge big money, and Jerry Jones wont do that, I am guessing that Hamlin wants like 40 million for 5 years, hope i am wrong though and they get the deal done.

He has sounded very confident that a deal is pretty much in place and that they are just trying to figure out all of the technacalities of the deal.

Hamlin is our Ace in the hole if we ever have to let Roy go.

If Roy gets back to how he played his 1st 3 seasons then every teams offense will have nightmares against this defense.

WOW, you think 8 mil per year. Wasn't the other contracts for safeties in the 6 mil per range.

If your right, then we need to PUNT.

Hope for the best in 09, Watkins or Browns improvement, free agency, the draft, Roy not blowing chunks.

I think a deal gets done today.

It's in everyone's best interests.

And I think the pressure has shifted to Hamlin and his agent to get a deal done now.

If not, he plays the season under the franchise tender and risks possible injury.

If that happens, his asking price for 2009 will be compromised.

I think they'll take the offer on the table today.

I would like to sign him too, but don't over pay for him. The Cowboys still have options and a huge hawl of talent. The Cowboys still have Henry and Watkins along with Courtney Brown.

If Roy and Ken are gone next year, the Cowboys will have those listed, and free up around $10M in funds and next years draft.

Of course, the best option is still signing Hamlin and freeing up the $6ish million from Roy Williams. Just don't cripple yourself when you still have options. Hamlin deserves to make good money, but don't be an Al Davis.

I was going to bust your chops on the huge big money comment til I read 40 mil over 5 years.
That is huge big money!:laugh2: But much more than Hamlin is asking.

Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting on ESPN's First Take that Hamlin and the Cowboys are "very, very close to signing a long term deal".

i dont think so, best i remember reading, i heard like the cowboys were offering hamlin 30 million for 5 years, and hamlin wanted more due to the fact that 3 safeties were signed for more. Best I remember those 3 safeties signed for 30, 33 and 39 million, which Hamlin views himself as beging better at a higher price.

So, thats why I put the offer Cowboys have at about 40 million for 5 years, I dont think Jerry Jones is going to go above that. There was reports and a reporter asked Hamlin about the rumors that jerry jones offered Hamlin a big contract offer over the weekend. Which Hamlin and his agent turned it down. So, seems to make sense if the cowboys had offered 30 million and Hamlin turned it down, then Jerry had to offer at least about 35 millioin over the weekend.

So, I am thinking somewhere from 35 to 40 million is what Hamlin is looking for. Sense Hamlin thinks he is better than the safeties signed and the highest one was for the Raiders I think, then seems like that Hamlin wants about 40 million.

Now, Hamlin did laugh when asked how much he was worth and Hamlin said 50 million for 2 years. Now, I hope that was a joke, joe But i am beginning to wonder if hamlin wants 40 milion or more.

Dang, if they get any closer, they'll be on the other side of one another. ;)
