Good points. Hamlin might not have gotten 5 INTs, but Newman and Jenkins combined for 9.
Give/take. It's nowhere near the 19 INTs we had in 2007, but Jacques Reeves got one, Roy Williams (the one who can't cover!!!) had 2, and Anthony Henry somehow managed to get 6!
I think if the team builds on what we started to get going from the CB position this season (no more Scandrick starting experiments), we'll see more INTs from both safeties combined. Hopefully Sensabaugh will have 2 hands to make plays with this year instead of only 1.
Look, the secondary does need to increase it's INTs, but that does not all fall on Ken Hamlin. The corners as a total unit need to contribute there as well.
But as far as Hamlin is concerned, the staff, and he, ne deed to determine if his declining INT production is due to a lack of effort or erding skills. While he did not give up too many big plays over the top, it could be because he playing a tad more back to compensate for a slight decline in speed. Nobody here really knows.
Or is it that he was overweight a bit and is that an explanation for playing too far back, if in fact he was? Or could his injuries over the past two years contribute? If that's it, sholdn't he be given credit for coming back last season for the stretch run? If so than that indocated a giving of effort.
Nobody on this board knows these things for sure, so to just chalk it up to a lack of effort is short sighted. But I'm sure the Cowboys' staffers know, and they'll make the right decisions in kind. As much as Dave Campo is disrespected around here by many, he still is a fantastic secondary coach, and so I'll trust he'll figure this out and get the right safeties and corners on the filed.
