Dude..this guy went straight to the Pro Bowl last year with this team. And he's got bunches of years left on the career.

Funny how for some fans being named to the Pro Bowl carries such weight, but when it's done by 13 other players on your team, suddenly being a Pro Bowler means you are 'average' and just another Pro Bowler..huh....?

:scratching my head:

Why keep playing with the personnel when we can have just what we have and just pay the going rate and not worry about the position for a few years..?

This defense needs all the help it can get.

Sign the guy.

And don't get too cute about it, either.

Soon would be fine.

You can't pay top money to everyone. If we give him the contract he's looking for, you realize how much moeny we'll have in the secondary alone? Does that mean you can't resign Newman next year?

If that ends up being the case...I'd take Newman over Hamlin.

The problem is the $12 mil owed to Roy over the next three years. If he keeps playing average football he needs to be paid like an average player.

Newman will get his money because Henry is gone after this season and Pacman and Jenkins are not going to break the bank.

Average football ? 2 players on our team had over 90 tackles one was LB the other RW he played in 15 games. I fail to see the averagness of this mans game.

Why do you think Henry is gone after this season? He's not scheduled to be a free agent until 2010.http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_contract.aspx?sport=NFL&id=2634Contract Information for Anthony Henry 3/2/2005: Signed a five-year, $25 million contract. The deal included a $10 million signing bonus. 2008: $2.6 milion (+ $1 million roster bonus), 2009: $2.6 million, 2010: Free Agent

I think that Hamlin did a good job last season, but I think that his play is being over-rated a little because of the problems we've had at FS for the last several years.

agreed tossed in with the fact that we went 13-3. The year before Hamlin Watkins was starting and he was a rookie and got benched i don't remember who was starting after Watkins got benched however it Obv not hard for him to have been a upgrade.

Tackling people is all good, but having 0 TFL, 0 sacks and 0 FF in a Wade Phillips 34 defense from the SS position is average football.

Injuries, contract, age and the fact that he won't want to be the 4th CB.

Why would Jerry pay the 4th CB $2.6 mil ???

If he gets dinged up again this season and Scandrick shows that he can play then I think it's a 100% lock that Henry is gone after 2008. That's even with him playing some FS in special packages this season.

And of course this all goes hand in hand with the idea that Pacman doesn't make it rain any time soon.

their is no safety in the NFL that can cover one on one the best TE's in the league yet we ask it of him so there isn't no insert random for RW we should be happy with his play also.
hamlin is asked to cover receivers 1 on 1 sometimes so that excuse doesn't fly here.

Sign him up Jerry. We need this guy long term.

.

I hope we keep him, but wont lose any sleep if we dont. He isnt worth 35-40 mils or more...he was a dependable player who made a few plays but also made his share of mistakes...he is not an elite player

I can agree with that. There were a few plays here and there where he whiffed on a tackle or took a bad angle.

I think the most important thing he did was play 'QB for the defense' and make sure to stop the 80 yard bombs that killed us in 2006.

I really like Hamlin, but with the Raiders spending all that money on Wilson it kind of throws a monkey wrench in our plans. He hasn't worked out at VR because he hasn't signed the tender, but that isn't stopping Canty. I just don't know about signing him to a huge 6 year contract. I hope he gives us a deal since we took a risk on him the last time.

He's not a CB. He isn't supposed to jump routes and make interceptions on a regular basis.

As a FS he is supposed to roam and help out on coverage and every now and then be in the right place at the right time.

idk about that, he took a risk too, signing a only 1 year deal, what if he got hurt? what if we don't pay him after the year he had like say Oakland would have? not saying I'm foreseeing Dallas trying to lowball him, but we should return some good faith too for the year he had

Hamlin is a smart player that plays with an attitude. I would sign him to a 4 yr/33 mil deal. He played as well as any safety in the NFL last year including Bob Sanders, the DPOY.

Fuzzy memory...........I recall in the first game of the year, I believe it was in the first quarter where Hamlin was one on one with Shockey on a 4th down and he knocked the ball away. He had no help, so maybe he cant guard recievers one on one but he can guard tight ends 1 on 1 very well. Of course if that was our other safety on that play it would be an automatic first down for the Giants.
