Hamlin would be a mistake

He had more tackles, the same amount of sacks, one less INT and more passes defended last year than he did in what would arguably be his best year in 2004. Is it really that big of a gamble?

Thank you.

A little hearsay from a regular poster at ES. Poster is CPortJGibbs89, and from what little I recall of him, is a straight poster:

Some people on this site know me and that I dont come to this site to say a brother of another friend of a mother said this..... But for once I actually have a little info so if you wanna believe it thats fine if not doesnt really bother me... My brother is friends with Ken Hamlins brother, my bro just told me that the cowboys are not trying to let Hamlin leave without signing. If you want I will keep you posted if I hear anymore news but it sounds like the boys really want him.....

Keep us posted bro!!

I'll never understand the need to use absolutes like "always" and "every time" to make a point.

You mean absolutes like NEVER !! :laugh2:

Im looking at the Yahoo! Stats breakdown by position and Hamlin compared faviorably to top NFC safeties last year despite the hearsay that he wasnt the same after getting hurt. 7th in tackles (the 4 people above him had 1 or 2 more) , tied 2nd in sacks, tied 7th (due to a ton of players with 4 and 3) with 3 INTS, and 4th in passes defensed. It actually looks like not signing him would be a bigger mistake.

Except that is true. I actually will never understand it.

This isn't rocket surgery.

if you think it's a mistake, you"re gonna have to deal with it. we will sign him by next week

Some can't let it go that easy, ... see the crowd that still hasn't dealt with our signing Owens over a year ago.:laugh2:

Bring Terrell Owens into a thread for no apparent reason.

check.

leopard-man?

uncheck.

The point was to point out the correlation between just "dealing with it" because we signed a player, and some "not dealing with it" when we signed a player over a year ago.

He is the player that people haven't "dealt with" yet, that's why his name was mentioned. Hard to point out the correlation without doing so.

Just "deal with it" is good advice.

Do you really want your FS to nearly lead the team in tackles? This speaks more of the incompetence of the Seattle front second to tackle someone than it does of Hamlin's playing ability. Seattles front seven were one of the worst tackling units in the league. Hamlin was the one forced to finish off the tackles. He simply does not play with the same energy he had before he got hurt. And again, i am not opposed to the Cowboys signing Hamlin, but I am not sure that he is the full time answer we need. i would really hate for the Cowboys to pass on a FS in the draft and still have coverage problems later in the season.

He doesnt have the same energy, but had one of his best seasons ever statistically speaking? You are making this over dramatic. He isnt Tony Parrish.

The only negative that I see in signing Hamlin is the fact hat the man had swollen brain tissue and a blood clot in his brain within the last two years.

As a free safety he is far better than anyone we have on the roster based on last years play.

I dare anyone to watch Watkins in the Atlanta game last year and come back and tell me he played well after coming back. Noone argues he was terrible in the first half of the season.

Keith Davis would be the worst starting FS in the league once again.

I have gone to several Seattle sites and the predominant opinion there is he was relesaed not becuase of his paly but because of medical reasons.

Another update, of sorts, from CPortJGibbs89:

Just talked to my brother and said it looks like he is going to sign with Dallas......

good news

If nothing else at least Hamlin would bring a attitude and fire to our squad ..... the guy has gotten into a few pre game scuffles with opposing teams ..... reminds me of James Washington and George teague.

I understand where you are coming from, but you can use both Pat Watkins and ken Hamlin in situations where they play thier best. You can put Ken Hamlin in on 1st and 2nd downs where I hear Wade Phillips loves to blitz the most. and you can put Pat Watkins in the nickel where it would pretty much be a passing down. I agree if he wants the big money pass, but if we can get him fairly cheap I will be on board.
so then offenses like Peyton Mannings would eat that stuff up, knowing what kind of defense were running because have to make up for Hamlin and Watkin's weakness'

wouldnt just be easier to have good FS back there?
