Hard realities

Not ready to write off the season. I wasn't expecting the Schotty Era to take off immediately. The only shock for me is the secondary, especially Diggs and Wilson. Diggs fall off reminds me of Jaylon Smith. He can't play anymore. Wilson !? CUT!!!!

Watching the Game Day thread yesterday, the only thing that surprised me was the number of fans that seemed genuinely shocked at how bad our defense played. The screams for Matt Eberflus’ head is understandable but would solve 0% of our problems. Because this defense is really, really bad.

So here’s our first hard reality: This defense does not have much talent. A “better” scheme and a 4th new defensive coordinator in 21 months will not solve our problems.

In the 2023 season, our last season with realistic playoff hopes, 3 of our best defenders on that team are no longer on this team. And 3 others are currently hurt. And that 2023 defense was not great to begin with.
  • Micah Parsons - best talent we’ve had on defense in two decades. Traded to GB. Predictably tearing it up in GB.
  • Demarcus Lawrence - one of the most underrated Cowboys in recent years, was lost in FA to Seattle. (Too many fans here only looked at sack numbers) DLaw was a real talent who has already made an impact in Sea.
  • Jourdan Lewis - a real leader and underrated talent, lost in FA to the Jags. Has two picks in 3 games.
The above players weren’t enough to make our defense good enough in the playoffs as we saw in the horrible GB playoff disaster. But the guys who have replaced the above better players we had are all a major step down.

And most of the other talent we have on D now is hurt. Trevon Diggs isn’t right, Deron Bland has a bad foot, and DeMarvion Overshown - who knows if he will ever be the same. Osa Odighizhua is a complimentary piece that will never be dominant without help, and Kenny Clark is clearly not the same guy he once was.

The second hard reality I have accepted and it’s the hardest to overcome: A complete lack of front office cohesiveness beyond how to market this team. Someone was quoted on Twitter last night saying, “The Dallas Cowboys are the Jacksonville Jaguars with better marketing.”And that’s not fair to the Jags. They have been to two conference championship games in the last 30 years.

The hard reality is this is not a roster with enough talent to be a playoff team. It can improve but not much IMO. Losing a lot of games this year is sadly in our team’s best interest.

One final question: Do you have faith that our front office knows how to rebuild? I wish I did but I don’t. We fans are just going to have to play the long game in hopes that real changes will happen at some point. It doesn’t take much football insight to know our FO is clueless when it comes to building a playoff roster.
No faith in FO.
I am a bitter fan who can't see a way the SB drought will ever end
But I have to keep the hope up that we can get some wins this season.
Otherwise what's the point.

Nope.
The first step is the front office recognizing that a rebuild is necessary. Jerry is nowhere close to that. When he's telling us that this team is still a playoff caliber team, it really shows us how far Jerry is from thinking rebuild.
Our GM is delusional about his roster and worse - is delusional in thinking he and his DNA fortunate son are capable of building anything beyond the great marketing machine they crank out every year.

Everyone in the world knows it except the Jones. And I think deep down they know it but can’t admit it.

The most frustrating part of all this, is that even with multiple first round picks we have zero confidence that Jerry and Junior know how to build or rebuild a team. No plan, no vision, no scheme, and no knowledge. Thus no change and no hope.

Just accept the mediocrity and you better have a good sense of humor.

Yup, and you forgot about losing Golston, who had 8 sacks in a complementary role.

I believe Stephen knows it. I believe Jerry is delusional.
No sir, they don't.

Neither of the Tweedles can evaluate a player. I mean, they are complete numtards when trying. They truly believe that a player just has to try really hard to be good. It's blathered by them w/ every spew they spew.

Jerry was truly lost when we lost to GB in the playoffs. He had no idea what to do or think, as he'd tried his best. Completely bamfoozled. He can't analyze anything, and by his own admission refuses to try. No way they can know if a player/position/area of the team is good as they don't analyze anything. Worst GMs in the NFL, and there's no close 2nd.

Homer glasses are worse than beer goggles. After that resounding win over the gnats last week somebody said our window was open till 2027. The most delusional post I have ever read and that is saying something.
now, combine the two...Homer Beer Goggles...huh? comeone? huh, come on. its great no?

It bears repeating no? Problems are like pimples, they don't go away on their own without first bursting crap all over your face. The Cowboys never spot a problem and actually deal with it. They let the crap metastasize to the point where it becomes a massive enough problem where they can no longer lie to the fanbase about it. That is what we are being sold with Prescott. A problem who is a problem but is being concealed by the fact that there are bigger problems. Instead of addressing it however we are going to let it ride for a few more years -wasting more time, more seasons, more careers.
Yeah, Dak has rated among the best so far this season, so your argument holds no water except on a personal level. You're just arguing as usual because you don't personally like him. Too bad. Dak is playing among the top 1/4th QBs right now. He is not the problem. Deal with it.

All I can think of is the old joke: what did she look like through beer goggles? Punch line: 3AM. Same thing the Cowboys looked like through the homer glasses on Sunday.

What's bad is that the Bears' defense was just as bad or worse, but they shut out the Cowboys offense completely in the second half.
You can blame the Cowboys defense all you want, but where did the offense and the $60 million quarterback go?
That's twice this season he has been shut out in the second half.
I do believe that Dak has more trouble on the road. He likes the home crowd and home field advantage.
A $60 million flop.
That really doesn’t have anything to do with the topic of this thread. Jerry and Stephen would have ruined your favorite, Rush, if they had promoted him last year.

Changing QBs will not fix what’s wrong with this team and would be unlikely to get us to a superbowl

Josh Allen wouldn’t win more than 8 games with this roster

I agree. But then I have little faith in the talent evaluation skills of our FO. Thinking all we need is a good QB is barely scratching the surface of this team’s problems.
Agreed. Just looking at the replies here, you see so many focused on individual players. This franchise is so messed up that adding Josh Allen, Sauce Gardner, and Myles Garrett and I still don’t think we would contend seriously for the NFC.

This is not a player or coaching issue. This is a front office issue.

Players play harder when they believe that they can win.
They would play harder for Josh Allen.

I little to no faith in our front office. If I could go back in time to 1992 and I was 10, just starting to watch football, I'd force myself to follow any other team.

Sadly, I can barely remember those couple of good years, but I'd save myself the last 30.

Jerry and then probably even moreso Stephen don't actually have a clue what they are doing. They are rich entitled pricks who cosplay as football minds. If we ever win again in the post season if will be in spite of them.

I look forward to a few things at this point:
1) Jerry's death.
2) Possibly Stephen's death (will have to see if he gives up his cosplay).
3) Jerry being embarrassed by how poorly the team does (not sure he's capable of embarrassment).
4) Dak being off the team (maybe we luck into a talented QB capable of carrying the Jones family, doubtful but a man can dream).
