Hard realities

I don’t understand how you can confidently say firing Eberflus wouldn’t matter because of the talent.

We are letting guys run free all over the field.

If players were actually covering those areas it would make a massive massive difference.

They are literally not being defended.

So you can say we have a talent issue but I would bet this group could play significantly better defense if they were within a 2 yard radius of being able to make a play.
So getting a 5th DC in 21 months is going to make us better? I’m not saying Eberflus doesn’t deserve to be fired. I’m just saying, then what? What would it actually accomplish besides making some people feel better?

People were really angry last year after Zimmer’s defense stunk it up against the saints and ravens. Then they got somewhat better as the year went on but again…it was a bad D along.

Here’s the hard truth - no scheme or coordinator can transform a bottom feeder collection of talent into a good defense. They can play better but talent is what this team desperately needs more than a new scheme or DC.

We were never this bad with any of the previous coordinators and most of the same players.

We are literally not covering people. The defense is lost.

They can be a lot better instantly with these same players if they had any chance to make a play on the ball but they are so lost & confused that they can’t.

I don’t care if we had the best 11 defenders of all time. If they arent covering people it doesn’t matter.

What’s amazing, is how much worse our GM gets every year…
I mean, I thought we might have bottomed out after the Green Bay debacle in the playoffs offs, but I’m starting to think we might not be even close to rock bottom yet… I think Jerry has lost touch with reality and has gone ‘Al Davis’
It’s going to be a painful few years at least.

What? You don’t this soon to be 83-year old can’t put together a winner?

Go find another team, Hater!

Jerry will never use a first round pick on a QB. Never. Especially not with the amount of money he has tied up in that position with Prescott. Anyone we get will be forced to sit because above all this team and Jerry will never let Prescott at 60 mil a year sit while a rookie plays. The team itself gets no benefit from the rookie contract because of the albatross that is Prescott.
What do you call Troy Aikman?

Even the legitimate talent the Cowboys have is being terribly mismanaged.

They waited until precisely the wrong player to stiffen on contract negotiations.

The team is seriously lacking in discipline and when it comes to discipline, Jerry Jones is in no position to preach.

Even the concept of earning your position, your contract and the respect of your peers through hard work and overcoming adversity should ring hollow when immediately pointing fingers at Stephen Jones, the heir apparent.

Stephen has every right to claim ownership once Jerry departs. The GM position is a different story. He has earned nothing. Everything he has is due to birthright.

What type of message does that send to this team of young men?

Let's be clear. This is a management issue and not a player issue. There are several franchises that could have taken the Cowboys teams over the last 30 years much farther with their tenured, credentialed general managers and personnel directors and head coaches with the proper authority and discretion to build a winning program.

None of this is available to the Cowboys players.

This team is run by an amateur who treats the job of GM like a part-time job.

Realistically, our only hope would be for future owner Stephen Jones to see the light and hire an actual NFL-qualified GM. Either that or fail so bad in his business transactions that he goes bankrupt and is forced to sell the team.

The single hard reality to accept is that this is not a football operation anymore. This is a background stage for the biggest fashionista of them all to keep the mic's in his face, to have people talk about him, look at him, and debate about him.

I don't know why you guys bother any more. Especially after he admitted that he works hard on keeping the drama on all year long.

Just wait it out, if ownership changes, we have our Cowboys back, if not, you save your health, time, and money.

I am glad I lived the glory days. At least I can pass by the old stadium location, see the logo, old films, and say, that used to be a GREAT football team.

There is so much wrong and we have bench raced every piece of it thousands of times.

It is truly a waste of all of our times to even discuss it as long as we have an 83-year-old man trying to do a job that he should have 35 to 40 year old men doing.

Until you get young guys go-getters that can actually assess talent and get that talent to perform we are just watching the laundry that we have been used to watching for years with no chance of it ever being successful.

Very depressing watching us play injured players that aren't back to 100% along with watching the injuries mount.
And the straw that broke the camel's back with me was them playing CD lamb like he is John riggins while keeping our much anticipated draft pick shelved.

We have nobody that can assess talent and we have proved we don't even know what talent to put on the field when we have it.

This team is a very sad State of affairs so I'm left with cheering for Brandon Aubrey and hoping by some miracle that we don't squander our draft picks.

It's a long year and there's much more pain and embarrassment in store for us Cowboys fans Jerry has guaranteed that.

Getting untalented players to play harder doesn’t make you better. It might make fans like them better but it won’t make the team a winner.

This team is 10-12 players away from being competitive. There’s not a QB anywhere capable by himself of making this team a playoff juggernaught without a bunch of other better players at multiple positions.

What you have stated sounds good , future hope.

I've given up on the FO to.

1. Get the right coaching team in.(Even a gem of a OC /DC. Who stays long enough for his unit to get DC to the SB.
2. WTH was wrong with MM as HC.
3. The QB.
4. I joined in 2008 starry eyed and learned so much.
5. In 2025 the SAME issues are still outstanding, we've not even been close to a SB play off run.

My humble take it it all.
I've posted this before.

2025 - 2029 JJ & SJ.
2030 - 2046 SJ + Jones member heir apparent.
2046 - 2051 - SJ Heir apparent + The next one inline to be thrown at us.

It's of paramount importance that in the years of incompetence from 2046- 2051.
The two decision makers, accept and realise.

1. It's been over 50 years.
2. A GM from another successful team / or with a good track record has to be hired.
3.That GM has full control.
We just sign the checks and give the GM every resource available to get success.
At Coordinater / HC recruitment.
At player recruitment AND contracts.
4. Creates a football culture.
Trenches first. We punch in the mouth as well as we receive a punch.

I'm dreaming and hoping.
Maybe Jerry would mess up the high draft picks anyway, but it's our only hope for the future. All we can do is hope that Jerry gets a player or two for a future GM to build around. If his kids don't hire a GM after Jerry's out, then we're FUBARed anyway.

Truth be told he wasn't that good at this job even when he was that age.
Agreed and the absolute worst thing that happened was winning a Super bowl with Barry Switzer giving him the confidence to believe he was right that anyone could coach the team and he could build the team.
Those two piggybacked off of Jimmy's success and it's set the stage for the 30 years of inepness that we have suffered

This all comes down to Jerry. The GM is responsible for acquiring players. Jerry has done a horrific job at it. Until that is improved, there's nowhere to go.

He'll build this team up just enough to tease us. WC playoff birth is as good as it gets under GM Jones.

At this point, the worse we fall apart the better.

You want to see bad, just wait if Dak gets hurt and Milton NoBrain takes over.

Think about this, he's done this every time. We had a 12-5 record for 3 consecutive years. What did Jerry do in the draft after our team was winning? Odd draft choices, ignoring weaknesses, just a complete waste of drafting. And he's done this before. When we start winning, Jerry starts drafting very badly.

Top 5 pick?

You actually think Jerry would pull the trigger on a QB? They have Milton. That will be his excuse for drafting either a RB or DE. Or maybe even a new OT to replace Guyton who has been absolutely horrendous.
He might and it's not so much about Dak but more about the splash Jerry would make by getting the most coveted Qb in the draft.

He hasn't had that opportunity since 1989? 90?

Just imagine the media fawning over him

Watching the Game Day thread yesterday, the only thing that surprised me was the number of fans that seemed genuinely shocked at how bad our defense played. The screams for Matt Eberflus’ head is understandable but would solve 0% of our problems. Because this defense is really, really bad.

So here’s our first hard reality: This defense does not have much talent. A “better” scheme and a 4th new defensive coordinator in 21 months will not solve our problems.

In the 2023 season, our last season with realistic playoff hopes, 3 of our best defenders on that team are no longer on this team. And 3 others are currently hurt. And that 2023 defense was not great to begin with.
  • Micah Parsons - best talent we’ve had on defense in two decades. Traded to GB. Predictably tearing it up in GB.
  • Demarcus Lawrence - one of the most underrated Cowboys in recent years, was lost in FA to Seattle. (Too many fans here only looked at sack numbers) DLaw was a real talent who has already made an impact in Sea.
  • Jourdan Lewis - a real leader and underrated talent, lost in FA to the Jags. Has two picks in 3 games.
The above players weren’t enough to make our defense good enough in the playoffs as we saw in the horrible GB playoff disaster. But the guys who have replaced the above better players we had are all a major step down.

And most of the other talent we have on D now is hurt. Trevon Diggs isn’t right, Deron Bland has a bad foot, and DeMarvion Overshown - who knows if he will ever be the same. Osa Odighizhua is a complimentary piece that will never be dominant without help, and Kenny Clark is clearly not the same guy he once was.

The second hard reality I have accepted and it’s the hardest to overcome: A complete lack of front office cohesiveness beyond how to market this team. Someone was quoted on Twitter last night saying, “The Dallas Cowboys are the Jacksonville Jaguars with better marketing.”And that’s not fair to the Jags. They have been to two conference championship games in the last 30 years.

The hard reality is this is not a roster with enough talent to be a playoff team. It can improve but not much IMO. Losing a lot of games this year is sadly in our team’s best interest.

One final question: Do you have faith that our front office knows how to rebuild? I wish I did but I don’t. We fans are just going to have to play the long game in hopes that real changes will happen at some point. It doesn’t take much football insight to know our FO is clueless when it comes to building a playoff roster.
How well does a rebuild team have to play
