Hardy Suspension Reduced to 4 games *Merge*

I thought he was reinstated from the Commissioner's list, which is why he is allowed to practice and play in pre-season games. He missed 15 games, but he was paid for them. Those games are not considered a part of any suspension. They don't have to rely on the courts, but they do let things play out in the courts first. Hardy delayed his court case over and over and kept pushing it back, which is why any decisions from the NFL weren't made until this year. By official rules and regulations Ray Rice has served official suspensions while Hardy has not. Nothing amazing about that.

Ray Rice was seen on video punching and dragging his wife out of a public elevator.

Greg Hardy had all charges dropped.

Rice is eligible to play. Hardy still has to serve 4 games, even though both incidents happened early last offseason.

I think that is crazy, you don't.

ps- I haven't seen it reported that he was off the Commissioner's List. That list was about keeping him off the 53 man roster.

It could be an important distinction. A lot of MLBaseball players will strategically drop their appeals to coincide with an injury, a day off or a weak schedule. If Hardy can do the same he could keep fighting the suspension until it was a good time to drop it, even if that was next year.

The precedence for no convictions has always been 0 games. A 4 games suspension still carries a 2.5m penalty. I would keep fighting if I had a good chance of winning.

Rice's legal case got finished last Summer. Hardy's legal case didn't conclude until this Spring. Nothing crazy about it. The calender dictates why one guy has already finished his penance and the other has not.

Roethelisberger was never convicted and he was suspended, so I don't see how you can say the precedence is for 0 games.

I think Hardy will take this and move on from it. He got six games cut off of it and I get the sense from all the different reports that he's growing tired of all the stuff that is going with this.

But don't forget that he's going to lose a few million dollars by missing those 4 games.

Players have been suspended with out convictions.

He has a chance at winning. I don't think he has a good chance at winning.

Th next appeal would be to federal court and given recent case law I think he has a slam dunk chance. Goodell is punishing a nonconviction more than a conviction. Had Roethlisberger been convicted of sexual assault he would have been in the same boat as Carruth.

I would guess the NFLPA will be pushing for taking this to court. It's a power play at this point, they have a chance to make Goodell look impotent and they'll likely take it. Any time an organization gets to flex its muscle there is a good chance it will do so, it looks good at the bargaining table.

From all reports, even Hardy's own representatives consider 2 games to be the best case scenario. So they may indeed decide that it's really not worth all the hassle to go from 4 to 2.

All this talk that Hardy has nothing to lose is nonsense. If they go to federal court, the league will want to submit into evidence the photos they saw to make their decision. A federal court may order the prosecutor to release them. I'm betting Hardy doesn't want those pictures released. We all know a picture is worth 1,000 words. Gotta think Hardy doesn't want Holder's bruised, battered body splashed across the front page of every sports section in the country and played on an endless loop 24/7 on ESPN.

Not when you're flexing your muscle in defense of a guy who beat up a woman. It could very easily backfire for all concerned. If those sealed photos were ever released and people see all the bruises and cuts on Holder's body, the public sentiment could easily be on Goodell's side thinking he deserved the 10 games (if not more).

I bet the Cowboys are ecstatic with the reduction to 4 games and hope he lets it be. Officially they have no say. Unofficially, they might help steer him in that direction.

Since you were involved in the case could you describe the pictures please.

Since you were involved in the case
could you describe the pictures please.
Well, I can give you Goodell's description:

The net effect of these acts was that Ms. Holder was severely traumatized and sustained a range of injuries, including bruises and scratches on her neck, shoulders, upper chest, back, arms and feet,

Do you think Greg Hardy wants pictures of Holder's bruises and scratches on her neck, shoulders, upper chest, back, arms and feet made public? You think the public will look kindly on all the damage a 280 pound professional athlete did to a woman less than half his size? You think the public will buy the defense theory that she simply did it all to herself?

Good luck with that.

Unless of course 'all the cuts and bruises on Holder's body' amounts to very little. Which is entirely possible.

But if I start arguing that with you it will be one more strike towards getting the thread locked. Because you have again veered off of the topic and into the 'Greg Hardy is a monster' dialogue. I honestly don't think you can help yourself.
