Hardy update

I don't think we're getting Hardy but I will get on top of my desk and do a jig if he signs before 5 pm.

Yep.

This has been a puzzling offseason where the team made really no effort, other than sit at the bottom of the barrel hoping someone would magically fall to them, to fix our biggest defensive need - pass rush. Now it's basically hope Lawrence becomes a stud and draft a guy early in the draft and hope he makes an impact. But we also need LBs and a TB.

The more holes you create and the less holes you fill even sifting through the bargain bin creates a situation where your need your draft to be a total home run. That's a lot of pressure to put on a draft.

The offseason has been puzzling for me. I am usually in step with what Jerry and company have done the last few years but they are taking the approach this offseason as if they dont' consider themsevles a contender needing one piece here or there to put them over the top or that they think they are just swell as is other some "depth" signings and that's enough to make the SB.

I agree. It has a lot to do with that short window we are now in, given Romo's age and health. This team is a pass rush away from being an NFC contender, and a rookie DE can take two or three years to reach potential. Just in time for our rookie QB to take over.

How are we not an NFC contender already?

I looked at the title of this thread and thought it meant a "robust update", lol.

We contended last season. And we have the opportunity to get better defensively just by upgrading any of a number of mediocre positions through both the draft and free agency. Plus, we can expect improvement from several young players already on the roster. At the end of the day, that's really how teams get better.

We're not going to get worse overall because we changed running backs. We'll bring in a rookie and design more plays for Dunbar. Continue to give touches to Beasley like we did at the end of last season. We'll adjust the offense slightly to one of our many strengths and still run the ball effectively.

The real game this offseason is replacing the role players we've lost on defense and upgrading from there. That's what's going to make the difference between success or failure next season.

Because we have no pass rush or a strong enough defense. We are a playoff team. But not a NFC title contender IMO as presently constructed.

We were a blown call away from the NFCCG last year. We also beat the team that won the NFC. Is that not contender worthy??

Passing El Paso on his way to Oakland. No one is outbidding them.

Lol. I haven't heard that. All I've heard is he's speaking to an unnamed team. And after losing Murray don't be surprised if that's us

Things change from year to year. You know like going from 8 wins to 13 lol. You can't just assume that you'll have the same success as last year. Cowboys needed to fix some holes and thus far they've created some more.

Last time I know about was when we brought TO in.

That is the only time I can think of as well. We seem very choosy on who we deal with on an agent front. He rarely is a name I hear as opposed to say a Tom Condon or Jordan Woy.

I would be shocked if they are even having discussions about Hardy... I would be willing to take bets.
