Hardy did a great disservice to the Cowboys for not fighting tooth and nail to reduce that four game suspension. Those are four games he will never get back. He needs to be on that field contributing to winning games.

You dont think he consulted with the Cowboys brass on his decision

Hardy also needed to think about his next contract. The owners around the league may not love him fighting the league in court. Most owners just want football to start and get the leagues legal issues out of the press everyday. Plus anyone who believes he is guilty won't change their mind regardless of him fighting it or not. They will just see him fighting it as continuing to be defiant and not remorseful.

I wish he didn't get 4 games but I understand why they didn't fight it.

I bet the Front Office told him not to fight it, which looks better on them for not. This is a very delicate situation with women assault i really think they did the best thing.

He stands to lose about 625k per game.

But now it is over in a month. If he keeps fighting it could be months or years before it is settled. And what if the suspension hits during the Playoffs run? After 15 mos he probably just wants to move on.
If he kept fighting, he would have to keep paying the lawyers as well. Eventually, it isn't worth the effort.

I remember this from June 8th like it was yesterday:

Cowlishaw: Why I don't think Greg Hardy's suspension will be reduced any more

SportsDay columnist Tim Cowlishaw, author of Drunk on Sports and co-host of "The Afternoon Show with Cowlishaw and Mosley" on KESN-FM 103.3, hosted a chat Tuesday to talk all things sports. Here are some of the highlights:

I know it's just conjecture at this point but think we hear something about Hardy's appeal this week?

Yes there should be a ruling this week. I have said I think it will get reduced. I'm not so sure about that now. League just may not want to deal with the fallout and leave it at 10 games. Should know later this week.

I’m confused about Greg Hardy, can they really support a 10-game suspension when they already suspended him almost all of last season?

He got paid last year, he just didn't get to play. That's not a true suspension.

I'm a little disappointed he didn't take the league to court but after reading his explanation for his decision I think it is completely the honorable thing to do. Ending this saga by serving out the suspension and then putting that whole thing behind him helps everyone. Once he gets back I think he will have a great season. I just hope we can get a long term deal with him.

I would have preferred to see Hardy appeal but then again, I think he had a valid point about not wanting to see his team dragged through the mud in a court proceeding that might have had plenty of potential for doing exactly that. He's also been through enough as it is without adding to the torment any further. The issue of it probably being a distraction to the team was seemingly quite well taken as well.

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying the "He wanted it to all go away" rationale.
With the focus the NFL has on domestic violence, you almost have to fight the suspension, ESPECIALLY, when your case was dismissed.
And I find the spotlight argument a shallow one. He's playing for the DALLAS COWBOYS!!! You think this is going to be the last mention of his domestic abuse case? You think if Dallas makes the Super Bowl his situation isn't going to be discussed or written about by, oh, the thousands of media personnel during Super Bowl week?
I've maintained all along I believe he isn't as innocent as some want to make him seem. He did SOMETHING! And, yes, not challenging this case leads me to believe this, in light of what I mentioned above.
He wants to make it go away, alright. I'm disappointed he didn't challenge the NFL's suspension, if he was indeed innocent.
And if he isn't, then I'll accept the suspension as fitting for his involvement in a situation of his own making.
See ya for the New England game, Greg.

I think Hardy just wanted to avoid the spotlight. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if he had asked Garrett, Garrett would agreed that just getting it out of the way would be better than fighting for 2 more games or whatever and have domestic violence be a part of the conversation again.

I'm sorry, but I'd lose much respect for Garrett if Hardy came up to him and said, "Coach, this woman is LYING. I didn't abuse her, and I'm going to fight it to the highest court of the land" and Garrett said, "Son, you need to get this over with. Serve the four-game suspension and put it behind you. Proving your innocence isn't what matters. What matters is we need you available after your four-game suspension."

I would be like, "What?!?!?"

And meanwhile Brady misses 0 games. What a crock of crap this game has become.

Brady misses zero games for insufficient evidence that he was involved in deflating footballs while Hardy is missing 4 games due to evidence that got him charged with domestic violence. The charge was dropped only because his accuser refused to cooperate. Reports were he may have settled with her out of court. After the Ray Rice situation rocked the NFL world that resulted in a TV campaign against domestic violence did you expect the league to completely wipe out Hardy's suspension after already reducing it by 6 games? Do you think overturning a suspension that had to do with domestic violence would have sat well with everyone? Can you come up with a case where a player was charged with domestic violence and didn't receive a league suspension or had their suspension overturned? There's a big difference between being accused of deflating footballs and being accused and charged with domestic violence.

Hardy did a great disservice to the Cowboys for not fighting tooth and nail to reduce that four game suspension. Those are four games he will never get back. He needs to be on that field contributing to winning games.

The Cowboys knew he was facing a suspension before they signed him so there was disservice done to the team. Hardy could have fought tooth and nail all he wanted they weren't going to overturn a suspension that had to do with domestic violence. Hardy was lucky to get the suspension reduced as much as he did. Overturning a suspension for domestic violence would have sent a bad message. It was reported only around 6 teams were interested in Hardy and the Cowboys took a backlash signing him. They well aware they were likely not to have him for the start of the 2015 season but they're desperate for a pass rush and made the decision to live with whatever suspension he got. Hardy is lucky the charges were dropped due to his accuser not wanting to cooperate because had this gone to trial and he was found guilty his NFL career would have likely been over.
