I think more people die each year in automobile accidents than plane crashes, .. it is just when a plane crashes it is a large number.
Air travel is safer than by automobile, .. not even close.
The National Safety Council compiled an odds-of-dying table, which further illustrates the relative risks of flying and driving safety. It calculated the odds of dying in a motor vehicle accident to be 1 in 98 for a lifetime. For air and space transport (including air taxis and private flights), the odds were 1 in 7,178 for a lifetime, according to the table.
Statistically speaking, flying is far safer than driving. However, it may feel more dangerous because risk perception is based on more than facts, according to David Ropeik, risk communication instructor at Harvard School of Public Health. Driving affords more personal control, making it feel safer. In addition, plane crashes are catastrophic, killing more people at once, which grabs more attention and makes people more sensitive to them. Car crashes happen every day and spread the loss over time, making their combined effects less noticeable.
It's not just mechanical problems you have to worry about on planes it's the passengers on board with you. You have terrorists and people who suffer inflight meltdowns that add another element of concern with air travel.
That it is a low percentage of incidents. Also, people can suffer meltdowns in cars and in traffic. Road rage incidents are also low percentage incidents, but they do occur.
True, but anytime you board a plane if it goes down it can take over 300 people in one swoop. We risk our lives everyday getting behind the wheel of a car. I own several exotic sports cars but I don't race around I drive with caution. You're having to trust a lot of people when you're driving. As for road rage LA is probably the road rage capital of the world with all the traffic and freeways.
I agree. It is always the other persons fault.
Usually the one at fault lives it's always the innocent driver who gets killed or seriously injured.
Why did you have to go and make it all serious?
I was involved in a crash landing years ago as a passenger and it's one of the most terrifying experiences you'll go through.
