Has a team ever accomplished this?

The 1972 Miami Dolphins went 17-0.
During the 1972 season, Bob Griese’s ankle was broken in Week 5.
Griese returned to the field as a substitute during the AFC Championship game versus thePittsburgh Steelers and then started for Miami in Super Bowl VII.

That was Earl Morrall to the rescue - possibly the best backup QB of all time. He previously led the Colts to SB III in '68 after Johnny Unitas was lost in pre-season to an elbow injury. He didn't play well in that game, overshadowed by the historic Namath prediction. But 2 years later, he redeemed himself when he had to sub for an injured Johnny U in SB V, leading a comeback win over our bad-luck 'Boys, 16-13. (That remains the only time the MVP has been given to a member of the losing team -- LB Chuck Howley).

He went with coach Don Shula to open the Miami franchise, and the above-referenced undefeated season was salvaged from game 5 up to the SB by Morrall, at 38 years of age.

He played 21 years for 6 teams, behind HOF QB's Unitas, Griese, Y. A. Tittle, Len Dawson, and Fran Tarkenton. He went on to be the QB coach at the U of Miami for Testeverde, Kosar, and Jim Kelly.

He died a year and a half ago, of Parkinson's.

The best chance we have for making the playoffs is that there's currently no good team in the division. Maybe the Giants or Iggles will turn into one, but I doubt it they are both very flawed teams.

His post said "best case scenario." The best case scenario is Romo returning as soon as he is eligible, not three weeks later.

Wasn't referring to his post I was referring to those who have the Miami game set as Romo's return.

Nice post Doc. I read it slowly to maximize my enjoyment of it's content.

We would be 2-3 right now with Murray. Only we'd have another horrendous contract on the books that will negatively effect us going forward.

This season isn't lost because of the decision to let Murray go. It's what they decided to do in place of him that has helped lead us to this. And, of course, the QB going down and our genius front office having Brandon Weeden as next man up.

3-2 at worst

We'd control game more with Murray.
