Has Crayton Proven to Be Our #2?

Patrick Crayton continues to impress me with the excellent routes he run and the tough catches he makes. Clearly Romo has the confidence to throw to Crayton and he ended up with six catches. He may not be a deep threat but is he our number #2?

He did that last season IMO.

Unless people expected 1500 yards and 34 TDs out of our #2 WR.

In my eyes, give him 3 more games and I'll definitely say yes.

That's a good point and the point I'd made in another thread actually.

If we're expecting our #2 to post incredible numbers every week, think again.

What amazes me about Crayton is that he just seems to find a way to get open. He's not the fastest, quickest, or strongest guy, but he always finds a way to get it done.

I thought he was a solid number two LAST season.

And everyone needs to remember Patrick Crayton is the third option in the passing game.

50 receptions and 700 yards behind Jason Witten and Terrell Owens is outstanding production.

Trick C has also improved every season with the Cowboys and I see no reason he won't continue to do so.

I know a lot of fans are turned off by his mouth yapping, but we're lucky to have Crayton.

Getting open isn't about outrunning or outmuscling the defender. Route running is all about setting up the defender and using his own momentum against him (or her if you play for the Commanders).

I'm with you, he had already proven it to me too.

He is incedibly underrated.

This kid was a QB in college and a 7th rd pick...a few yrs later he has turned himself into a very productive, quality role player for us. And he's a relative bargain.

#2 offense last season and likely #1 this season. I have to imagine you'd need a capable #2 receiver to achieve that sort of success.

Let's see, Alvin Harpers' super bowl year 1996

Alvin Harper #2 receiver
rec - yds - td
- 36 - 777 - 5

Patrick Crayton 2007
- 50 - 697 - 7

So I take back my first post, I know he's a really good #2.

Patrick Crayton resigned during the season for far less than he could've commanded as a free agent in the off-season because he wants to be a Dallas Cowboy.

Before I can pronounce Crayton a legitimate #2 I must have the following questions answered.

a.) If TO goes down...can Patrick step in and be the #1.

b.) Do opposing D's respect his abilities...do they fear him etc.

Maybe I am setting the bar too high.... but that's just me.

Yes--never a doubt in my mind......best hands on the team...yes, he drops some like everyone else

my question is... if TO goes down, is Crayton good enough to step up? in my mind an elite #2 can do this. average ones cant.

In a one-game sample, he's on pace for 96 catches and 1,300 yards. He's off pace on the 34 TDs, though. Still, it's pretty good for a #3 who just needs to learn to shut up.

Elite number two's are number one's? And average number two's aren't elite number two's, then? Gotcha.
