Is the DE we could get at 28 or 60 a better pass rusher than him? Dane Brugler has him ranked 38 right now.

I've seen him play in person and have been rooting hard for the owls for a few years now...but I don't think he's gonna be a DE in the NFL. Not at 6'1 235. He's multi talented tho, not just a pass rusher. He would make 1 hell of a LEO in a hybrid front or just a 3-4 OLB, can probably just play straight up SAM LB in a standard 4-3 too. Just don't think it's realistic to expect him to play with his hand in the dirt full time. Love the player and hope he succeeds, just don't see it being in our d unfortunately

I think he can play in our D like a Jack of all trades but he might be gone by the time of our 2nd pick, I really like him.

He's a LB at the NFL level. He's barely 6'1" and 237.

A LB who should blitz from time to time.

I know that. Of course he is. I meant is he a better pass rusher than any DE at 28 or 60...not he is a DE and a better pass rusher. What I'm saying is are we better off drafting him as an OLB and nickel pass rusher vs a traditional 4-3 DE?

Someone had a good point...I think it was Jeff Cavanaugh. Good QB's like Rodgers and Ryan get rid of the ball in 2.5 seconds. Try hard guys never have a chance to get there. This guy probably could effect the QB more than Taco or others in this class if used correctly.

All sounds great in theory except for the fact that Rod has showed very little willingness to use players in a creative manor. Given our d line front right now a hybrid Seattle/Oakland/Denver front 7 would make a lot of sense in my opinion...I just have very little faith that it's even being considered.

Much of the credit goes to Carroll’s defense, which has been the foundation of his success and remains closely tied to the first lessons he learned as a very young coach. “To be successful on defense, you need to develop a philosophy,” Carroll said at a coaching clinic while still at USC. “If you don’t have a clear view of your philosophy, you will be floundering all over the place. If you win, it will be pure luck.”

Hassan Reddick is definitely a wow type player.

I sense that Marinelli is starting to realize that he is going to have to have to change his approach to some extent. He did blitz and mix things up better late in the season than he has in the past. Marinelli did try to use Wilber at both SLB and DE but he is just not overly talented.

Can Reddick play SLB in base and play DE in Nickel? Seattle did it with Bruce Irvin, but Irvin was 6-3, 245 when drafted.

NFLDS shows Reddick at 6'1-1/2", 237.

Depends what you mean by nickle pass rusher I guess. We play the nickel a lot so I'm not sure Reddick is best suited to have his hand in the dirt that many snaps imo. Possible he could make it work though, I may be putting too much into his lack of size. If we were to go that route I'd rather see us commit to the 3-3-5 formation Rod showed this year and use Reddick as the blitzer that way. You could line him up all over and use him in both in 3 point and standing up that way. If Jaylon gets healthy I'd personally want to keep him, Lee, and Reddick on the field as much as possible if that was our LB trio. That's actually like mouth watering to think about those 3 on the field lol

I think he's clearly a linebacker and is more than adequate at that size.

An underated need on this team is LB. we need an influx of talent as McClain (gone), Durant (old/UFA), Gackhar (UFA) are all likely gone. Kyle Wilbur is not vying for a starting spot; Jaylon Smith is anyone's guess; Damien Wilson is intriguing but largely unproven.

Yes, I should say when there is a high probability of it being a pass such as 3rd and long. If the offense lines up 3 wide on first down then it could be a run depending on that teams tendencies.

They did run some 3-3 this season but it was more 3-2. If Jaylon is the MLB then 3-3 is not much different than 3-2 because of his coverage abilities. Bruce Irvin had a decent number of sacks while splitting time between SLB and DE.

Can he add weight? Melvin Ingram was 6'1 271 at the combine. Reddick has bigger hands and arm length. Ingram ran a 4.75, if Reddick weighs a little more and runs a great 40...................

Ingram was 6'-1.25", 264 lbs and ran an official 4.79 at the Combine.

FWIW, some "scouts" I've read think Reddick will be in the 4.4-4.5 range. We'll see.

He looks very fast out there when playing and he is great in coverage.

I got a feeling he is going to do great in the Combine and vault ahead of 28.
