Kind of a weird tweet, almost like he knows or just wants out of Dallas.

Saw a tweet a while back from a random fan telling him to come back to New Orleans and he retweeted.. Hmmm

He's 30+ in an NFL that is moving toward no longer paying his age or his position big money. I think he sees the writing on the wall at this point, even if he is going about it in a drama-queen passive aggressive kind of way.

I agree with that, just seems premature to write before the season even starts IMO.

The only thing I really care about is how he performs on the field, but I am old school and when I read it, I felt like he could have left out this is my last year here.

He has said some dumb things in the past.. might just not realize what he's actually saying. lol

I think he is disappointed that he has not been approached about an extension while an inferior player will make 50% more than he has over the past 3 seasons this year alone (Spencer). I can't say that I blame him. I do hope we manage to extend Hatcher halfway through the season to a cap-friendly deal if he continues to shine. It would have to be a short deal and would have to be for a reasonable sum. Maybe 3 years, $11M or so with a $3M SB. You just can't overpay age in this league and get stuck with all the dead money.

If you throw out last year, Hatcher's last two years have been superior to any of Spencer's years. I also think Hatcher is much more likely to repeat last year's play than Spencer is to repeat his. Hatcher is one of the biggest bargains in the whole league.

In what universe? In 2010 and 2011, Hatcher had only 41 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Conversely, Spencer tallied 129 tackles and 11 sacks over the same time frame. Hatcher isn't even in Spencer's league.

If I had to guess I would think he's using logic ..

1) He's in the last year of his contract
2) He will be 31 years old before the season starts
3) The team was well over the cap so they had to restructure contracts of several players, but not with him.
4) Potential young replacements on the team

They play different positions. Certainly you don't expect your 34 DE's to be putting up the numbers that your 34 OLB's are. The OLB are the playmakers in that D. Hatcher has been our best DL'man for the past couple years now. He's played well.

Check the edit -- I was referring to 2010 and 2011 as per the poster's claim. If you consider Spencer's 2012 campaign, the idea that Hatcher is a better player is nearly laughable.

I am at work and just looked out the window and saw a trucker in an adjacent parking lot picking his nose and scratching his crotch at the same time...talented and perhaps ambidextrous but some how I don't think he could walk into the cowboys and replace Hatcher.

Bringing up stats in this argument still shows a lack of understanding of the defense though.

Hatcher has been our best DL for a few years now, and putting up 4 sacks a year as a 34 DE is solid. Spencer has also been a very good 34 OLB for us, imo.. so an argument can be made for both of them performing very well for us in recent years. Don't understand why we always have to knock one of our own players just to praise another.
