Haters vs Homers: A Discussion?

I don't like fans that rip players and coaches and call them idiots, trash, garbage etc..... I heard that for 40 years as a player and coach....It pisses me off! Many of you have never played the game and you call our players trash. Is that what you teach your kids.
These players are millionaires because of the emotion of the fans. Those emotions create cheering as well as trash talking. Win = heroes. Loss = trash. It comes with the job...to a degree. Obviously, people say things that are uncalled for, but the trash and garbage comments are part of all professional sports. The players say it to each other. Fans say it to the players. It happens. But trying to convince a fan to be logical will drive you crazy. That said, I do draw the line at the professional sports. College students and younger shouldn't have to deal with these comments. They aren't adults and most won't ever see a penny playing the game.

As for the kids...you should hear how they talk to one another playing video games. That culture makes football fans seem like choir boys.

I’ve tried to not root for players but I root for the teams success..

Same here, but I will admit I am really enjoying watching Parsons play. 13 games into his first season and he is looking like he is going to have an incredible career. Hope he can stay healthy and Jerry is able to keep him in Dallas.

I agree, man. I’m routinely called a hater because I’ll criticize Dak all day long if I feel he’s not playing well lol. I just wanted to more so understand the reasoning for other people getting upset when a player is criticized
10-4 man totally get you.

He claims to be a coach but doesn't know how kids are. They are mean....specially middle school.....nasty!

Great take.

So we aren't allowed to assess player performance?
Of course we are, but do we need call trash and garbage? It one thin to say he's trash, it's another thing to say he played like trash....its just respect, that's the way my parents raised me.

I agree the term Haters and Homer's is a little misleading.
We all want the Cowboys to be able to compete and hopefully win another title.
However we do tend to get there in different ways. I, like most can be called both on different days. Being critical is not necessarily a bad thing but taking to the extreme is.
Blindly thinking everything Cowboys is great, is the epitome of homerism.
Like most of us, if we can keep it civil - there is room for all opinions. When a poster makes it personal and calls someone out or derogatory comments, then all bets are off and I , like alot of us will bite back hard. (Happened today actually).
But as far as I'm concerned it's over as soon as the game is.
We all want the same thing, we just get there in different ways some days.
My personal theory is keep it civil, if someone attacks you - go at them. Then you'll find yourself agreeing with something they say the next week.
After all, we are all Cowboys fans in the end !

The eternal dichotomy of sports fandom… the haters and the homers.

One, blindly optimistic; one, unshakably critical. I most definitely fall into the latter category.

In saying this, I’d like to open the floor to the optimists (I won’t name names)! I’m hoping we can have a constructive conversation and hear each other out on things such as:

Why do you dislike someone being critical of your favorite team and/or players of that team? Do you feel it’s disrespectful? Anti-fan?

While watching games, how do you react when things go wrong? If Dak makes a terrible throw or has an untimely interception or Anthony Brown gets burned, what’s your internal and external reaction? Do you have negative thoughts or do you directly move on to the next play and hope for the best?

I’d really like to hear from you guys, on both sides. There is usually a strict divide on this and there’s lots of judgment tossed around (especially during games when tensions are high). But maybe we can gain some perspective and have rational discussion while emotions are stable.

Go Cowboys!
I like the Cowboys and consider myself either.
I call them as I see them and Dak's performance since his injury is clearly been affected and is hurting the team.
I dont the answer but I Hope we find it before the playoffs.

I think you might be a little sensitive about an internet message board.
These kids you are talking about are watching p@rn on the internet.

Fair enough, man. Like I say, when it becomes personal, I completely agree.
If you feel like answering, I’m mostly just wondering if you get frustrated with Cowboys’ players if they mess up. Not that you cuss them or their families out, but do you have any negative thoughts or emotions when a really bad play happens?

jwooten15----been a total Cowboy Homer since January 1971...over 50 years.........i try not to overreact if the lose....but often it means i cannot watch game at all and then watch it later on gamepass

i do get very animated when players do good or bad....i really like team but realistically we wont get the only bye....so that means to win super bowl we'll have to play 21 games this season

we will have to iron our a whole lot and Dak will need to be the Dak of first 7 games...dont think he is fully healed and he caused 3 turnovers today....but we jumped out to big lead and had enough they could

not catch up even though WFT played better second half i guess....when i saw 24-0...i was hoping for a total beatdown...but then WFT went 20-3 after that....hope the sloppiness can be ironed out?

Not the way I was raised.... I talk a lot of crap, but i don't call people trash....just ticks me off...i would never allow anyone to talk to me like that...I've taught my daughter much better.

Well said, brother. Totally agree. Things can get mad when emotions are high during the game, but it’s all water under the bridge afterwards.

Go Cowboys!

It's fun to watch the back and forth. The first part of the season the sycophants were calling out the haters and the last month and a half it's been all excuses and strawmen. I am getting tired of the yearly repetition though, will we ever get over the hump? Or will we be firing another set of coaches for not fixing what the previous regime couldn't fix either?

Oh yeah man, I’m seeing him compared to LT right now on Twitter. It’s pretty cool to see the defense playing well.

I ask myself the exact same thing, all the time. For a generation, Cowboys fans have been conditioned to expect disappointment haha. SURELY our loyalty will pay off at some point!!

Haters are fans of other teams. Realists are tired of 26 years of ground hogs day.

There's no maybe about it. It's great you provide a good role model.

Not sure it's appropriate to preach about it here.
I'll be sure to watch your behavior here on out.
I don't have a problem cussing out fans, but when it came to my players and coaches that busted their butts for me....no one messed with them. Lol
