Have out of state fans noticed Dallas games not being televised locally as often?

the nfl is bigger than the cowboys. they don't need us anymore. they have superstars on other teams and marquee franchises that actually win so our "footprint" in the league is shrinking.

Sadly, this absolutely dead on.

Here's the numbers from 2012. How much do you suppose our 'footprint' 'shrank' here in 2013 so far, exactly? I don't know for sure, I could only find a measurement for 2013 so far based on revenue, where we've slipped to number one in value, revenue, and operating income.

"Value, revenue and operating income"....That sounds like something Jerry would say after another 8-8 year, I guess you work for the Cowboys or something so that might be important to you but not me. I want the Cowboys "footprint" to be on the field success and being relevant around playoff time. You can wave the "most fans on Facebook" pennant I guess.

That's hugely driven by the new stadium. Prior to the opening of the new stadium, Dallas was well behind Washington in all 3 measures, iirc. If you don't think the Cowboys footprint hasn't shrunk, you're ignoring the obvious. Look at broadcast maps. Only a few years ago, they were dominated by Cowboys games. Now they're not. Jones isn't dumb enough to not realize this, but he's too proud to do anything about it.

Good guess! But, sadly, no. I think revenue is actually a fairly good measure of a team's popularity, but I'm open to other ideas is you're also not going to accept the 2012 research data. Can I ask what basis you were using for saying Zordon was 'dead on' in thinking that our footprint is actually shrinking?

We all do. But that's not the question at hand in the thread you're choosing to post in.

That's what the polling data from the 2012 season addresses. There are obvious problems with using the broadcasting maps as a measure, given the shift in how games are watched, when they are watched, and how teams are actually being followed outside of a broadcast environment.

Even saying that, I'd be interested to see how and if the broadcasting maps have actually shrunk. Did I miss that information somewhere in the thread?

Didn't our game with the Deadskins smash ratings records? I think the biggest difference between the "good old days" and now is that we used to could be playing the crappiest team in the league and we would still be Game of the Week. Now, nobody wants to see us play the Rams.

But we still get our 3 Sunday Night games a year, and I'm pretty sure we have been by far the crappiest team to do that for several years now.

It probably isn't fair in any way to subtract the economic impact of the new stadium. It's here to stay, along with all of the revenues it generates.

I accept the data, I just don't care, you might be a numbers/data cruncher but in the real world I know the looks I get from people when I tell them I am a Cowboy fan, I have family and friends who act surprised that I am still a diehard but as far as they are concerned the Cowboys are old news.......By the way, the Texans are the 5th most valuable team in the NFL, I have never known a Texans fan....................................................ever.

There are numbers and facts in the real world, Heavy. Believe it or not, your family and friends might not be the best measure of the overall popularity of the 2013 Dallas Cowboys. And, depending where you live, it might not be all that big of a surprise that you don't know any Texans fans. I don't run into them very much where I live, either, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist.

Central Valley near Modesto..

Interesting. I'm in the Bay Area, and we hear almost nothing about the Seahawks here, unless it's in a discussion re: the 9ers and Harbaugh v. Carroll.

In New Mexico the past couple of years if the Broncos or Cowboys are on at the same time the game that is shown is the Broncos. It used to be the Cowboys. Got rid of NFL ticket so have to rely on the Cowboy Zone to get a play by play, thanks Clove!

Well, to be fair, if the Cowboys and the Broncos were playing and they were each on different channels, IE, Fox and CBS, then it depended on who had the time slot. Here in New Mexico, the last few years, Fox gets two games one week and CBS gets one and then the following week, it changes. It's rare that the Broncos are shown over the Cowboys but last week, the Broncos and the Cowboys were both on Fox at the same time and the Cowboys were not shown. That's the first time I can ever remember that happening.

Somethings changed I guess.

I live in NE Penna, smack dab in the middle of philly, NYG, Pitt viewing territory...and if they aren't on due to bye's or playing sun/mon night, then the jets are on...live stream is my only option (and that sucks)...thus, I have only seen the sunday night game and then whenever they get tossed on Red Zone for the 30 seconds that they show a score

I've missed two games directly attributable to the Commanders, as I'm on the edge of their territory. I missed a third game that just wasn't covered.

Case in point: when my wife and I left Texas for Louisiana (we had a good reason lol) we were getting DirecTv installed in our new house in La. The technician (knowing I was getting the Sunday ticket) asked who my favorite team was....I just looked at him and said "well I'm from Texas" he looked and me dead serious and said "oh you must be a Texans fan".........it's happening. This team had to start winning big again!

When was the last time you saw a Dallas Cowboy on a commercial that was not affiliated with the NFL? Cowboys used to be all over the commercials back in the day. These companies are using winners to represent their brands.

How about jersey sales...do we have any players in the top 10 or top 20?

Where are the primetime games this year?

Did you see the coverage map for the Chargers game? Even large parts of California had to watch the Broncos vs Eagles game. A few years ago every inch of that state would have had the Cowboys/Chargers.

It's the schedule.

Dallas has had two 1 o'clock games. The early games are not televised nationally.

Last week FOX decided it wanted to showcase Denver as the national game. This week CBS is also showcasing Denver when they play Dallas.

Dallas will be nationally televised the next two weeks, Denver and Washington. Then it's three straight 1 o'clock games.

After that Dallas will have five consecutive nationally televised games, NO on Sunday night, NY 4:25 start, Oakland Thanksgiving, Chicago on a Monday night, and GB a 4:25 start.

That's a total of 8 national games out of 16, barring flexing.
