This is the second QB in 1 week I've seen us interested in. We had Dustin here During Rookie Mini Camp. Is this a sudden interest a sign the Cowboys are getting ready to cut their loses with Henson?

BP was asked this week in a PC if he was happy with his back up QB's he said yes a follow up question was who would he go to if Bledsoe went down he didn't hesitate when he said Romo. he said Romo is the number 2 takes about 25% of the snaps and Henson is an emergency QB.

Read what you will into it but I have the impression Henson won't make it thru the offseason or very least he gets sent to NFLE and depending on how he does there he will be gone. Just my opinion....

EDIT: I hate the Henson threads as much as most of you so please no dumb "not another Henson thread" posts. This is an interesting workout and if you where Henson what would you think?

So you don't find it interesting we have looked at 2 QB's in one week this late in the season?

You obviously missed the entire offseason...

Any thread that contains the words "Henson" and "given up" is just asking for trouble

I think a reference was made a long time ago by the Cowboys about signing Long and sending him to Europe ... although that might have been speculation on JJT's part or someone.

As far as the rest, don't read too much into it. The Cowboys took only three QBs to camp last year because they wanted to get extended looks at Romo and Henson to decide the No. 2 job. They will likely be going back to a four-QB camp next year.

That would also help them if they decide to send Henson to Europe because his arm will be tired and they won't want to overwork him in camp.

No I was here and after a the first couple I avoided them like the plague and when it was reported we had interest in the CFL qb I ignored the possibilities but now we bring back Dustin Long for a work out this late in the season. Why? There can't be that many reasons.

1. One of the QB's is hurt and we just don't know
2. We liked what we saw in Mini Camp and aren't happy with one of our backups.
3. He's a talent we don't want someone else to get. But if that why hasn't he been signed by someone else already why now the follow up work outs?
4. Something completly different....

I'm thinking 2..... Why look at two young QB's this late in the season when we already have 2 young QB's on the roster unless your not happy with what you have....

I think the second we signed Bledsoe that Henson's future as not ever being a starting quarterback here was set.

And notice how quickly everyone forgot all about Henson once we signed a real quarterback. Which imo has been the greatest thing about the 2005 season....we no longer live in a pipe dream hoping we can find that ever-elusive "diamond-in-the-rough".

Next season I am betting he is gone before training camp ever starts. Romo maintains his number 2 spot, but we bring in a quality vet to step-in incase Bled goes down and Romo can't produce.

But anyway, as I've said since day 1, Henson will never amount to anything. He hasnt done anything in 2 years and has given me no reason he will improve.

Maybe we haven't, but Bill has, and he's the only one who matters... As Jerry has discovered.

I can go along with that but why now? why show the other teams who we are looking at now? Why not wait till the season is over when we don't have a limit on how many players we can have on the team? If it's a move for next season or camp or what ever why Now? That part doesn't make sense to me.

If we were bringing in Dustin Long and thought it was a potential improvement over Henson, I would be very worried about the braintrust of this organization.

The original question is very valid, as we could have "given up" on him.

But this recent workout, or the one for the CFL player in a few weeks, is not any reflection on Henson or his standing in the organization.

If your happy with what you have then I don't think you bring in a UDRFA who you had in Mini Camp for a work out with only 3 games left in the regular season. If it's for interest in next year then why now all you do is tell other teams to take a look at him also, unless your ready to sign him; which I guess we could and put him on the PS but why pay him for the remainder of the season when you could have just waited and then signed him in the offseason and not drawn attention to him?

Also wasn't there a article that said the cowboys are trying to get henson to change his throwing motion back for what ever reason? It sounds to me like they don't have a clue about Henson, and if your not sure of what you have then I agree you look around reguardless of when it is in the season.

BTW 1 week not a couple weeks.

EDIT The comment in Bold I bet a lot of people in NE thought the same thing when they got Brady what was it in the 6th, I mean they had bledsoe why draft another QB?

I believe this is usually about the time Parcells starts looking at players he'd like to send to Europe. I don't know why he does it at this point, but since he doesn't usually send players who are on the actual roster, I guess he feels it is necessary to take a look at some guys and decide if they are worth sending.

With Long, it is possible he's looking at how he progressed since the minicamp to determine if there is a reason to send him.

Henson will go to the NFLE and then we'll see...

There's no reason to be rushing Henson, because Bledsoe is having a Pro Bowl year. Also, Henson had originally signed for what like 7 years?

With an improved OL next year, I expect Bledsoe to post even better numbers and breaking a lot of team records in the process. Basically, I see Bledsoe only improving next year and Henson getting his feet wet in Europe.

What's wrong with that?

JK if you read the Jerry Jones transcript from when he was on Norm you will see the blow question and answer I have underlined the part that I believe can answer this question

You signed a player from Atlanta’s practice squad. I’m always interested in why a contending club signs another player off a practice squad. What do you see in that player?
First of all, he plays a position that is a premium for us. DE, potential LB … that’s what Ware plays. It’s a LB in this defense. That’s appealing. Any time this time of year that you can have a roster spot available and get a top prospect it’s a step for the future we’ll do it. We hope it pays off next year more than right now. We had a roster spot open with Price. We have a couple of other roster spots that we could use if we see something we like. With just 2-3 games in the season that we aren’t as worried about keeping roster spots for contingency plans in case of injury, so we might try to bring in young players who can pay off down the road.

a few weeks ago, Parcells was asked about Henson, and he said he's doing very well in practice

and why he was quick to say ROmo, when asked who would start if Bledsoe goes down, it's because Romo won the #2 job in camp, and before camp started, Parcells said that whoever won the #2 job, would be #2 for the whole year, and they wouldn't rotate like they did at the end of '04, so it's natural that Romo would be 1st off the bench should Bledsoe go down, because that's what #2 QBs do

idk what to make about working out these 2 QBs, but...

none of them have near the talent of Henson, and a workout will tell the braintrust next to nothing

so until I see or hear Parcells say that the development of Henson is going slower than expected, and/or he sees no future in Henson, and that he's letting him go, I think Henson's future is very much safe...

You said from Day 1?? Lets review what you were saying last year shall we. All this was said up until around feb-march of THIS year then you changed stances

"No, I want to see Henson play a full year before doing anything."

"....7: Henson will have had 2 training camps and a season to learn

That looks like a potentially great football team."

"Yet another reason Henson should be playing "

"Drew Henson is this teams future, and whether he looks good now or not he will be our QB next year. "

One of my favorites!

"
All this talk of signing a QB when we might very well have the next Tom Brady or Joe Montana in Henson and dont even know it yet!!! People, those of you saying hes no good give him a chance!!!"

"I'll say this...Henson has looked better in his short time than Eli Manning has all year and Eli has started kbow what, 7 games"

"I agree, talent wise Henson is matched by very few."
