Have we closed the gap on the Eagles?

No we have not closed the gap. They have 2 QBs that are probably a bit better than ours but I feel Dak could improve with the pressure being off of him to force it to Footsteps Bryant. On the negative side his security blanket is gone and the Eagles have a legit TE and good draft prospect . They also have an excellent #1 receiver in Jefferies where we have to see if anyone steps up .

Our Oline and running game is dependent on Tyrons back big ? there. Eagles were able to play well when Peters went down we struggled to put it mildly without Tyron. Same on defense Sean Lee goes down we flat out cant play defense . Eagles lose a starting lb and keep on trucking . Eagles pick up Haloti Nagta . We don't chose to address the NT problem . This will bite us in the butt before all is said and done as teams will just run on us and all the DEs in the world wont help keep our LBs from taking a beating .

The Eagles have better coaching and are able to adjust when players go down . We lose players and there is no back up plan or adjustments by our staff . This is the biggest difference I see and the easiest to fix there is no salary cap on coaches . Just buy the best Jerry . You should be embarrassed the Eagles were in a shambles and shot ahead of us as we continue to wallow in Garretts process of mediocrity .

Wentz has the stronger arm over Dak, only thing you can say is better. His accuracy, which Dak gets dogged for, isn't better. The playoff Foles is better yes, but the Foles who plays in the regular season isn't better than Dak.

I watched the first game between our teams and was amazed at how many times Irvin was fooled by the “wham” play. They literally didn’t block him but he kept taking himself out of the play rushing up field. It was embarrassing.
My point in bringing that up is if teams do that with ease what you’ll see is bigger players getting to LVE and a stated weakness of his is getting of blocks. And you know Heath won’t hold up having the tackle big backs for 16 weeks.
It's not a recipe for success that's for sure.

Just saying at this point they appear a little better but I am anxious to see if now that Dak has no pressure to feed a particular guy he settles down and becomes more comfortable and his accuracy improves . I think it will especially when he finds chemistry with one of the new WRs.

Foles is better in the postseason, yes. Wentz has a stronger arm, yes. Only things you can say they are definately better at.

Unfortunately for you what seems like the easiest fix is actually the hardest. What reputable coach wants to be undermined by Jerry? Jerry knew he didn’t want a strong willed coach from his time with Parcels?

I think maybe you should dig a bit further than your own opinion. Check out how many categories Wentz lead the league in. The top two being red zone efficiency and third down percentage ( would have listed TD’s but Wilson beat him out on the last week.) He was phenomenal with those. Forget what Foles did in the SB. IMO the Eagles don’t get there without home field throughout. And THAT was all Carson.

That is a coaching problem with DI. It can be fixed. Our 1st game will be interesting. DI's tendencies were definitely exploited. It's a coaching game. Other teams didn;t seem to do that after that game though so you have to think Irving was coached up some.

Philthy is definitely the stronger team IMO.

All signs point to that. They are returning 20 of 22 starters. Third year in the same system. For me the way to tell of a teams dominance is the point for/points against. The Eagles were plus 168 points. That means they beat teams by 10.5 points on average. You were plus 22. Which can mess to 1.3 points. And that’s with a system you’ve been teaching for years. I personally think you take a step back this season, early at least. Not sure how long it will take to gel but I wouldn’t bank on it being instantaneous. That simply hardly ever happens.

After watching these two games against the eagles ( the first one without elliot) and the second one against the eagles backups, I wonder if our Oline can hold up against their Dline.

What do you guys think? I’m cautiously optimistic that we did a little.

People forget that game Wentz was also missing his LT , RB MLB and Kicker that game :D Its hard to compare both teams from just 2 years because of the differences. 2016 Pederson was a rookie HC with a rookie QB unlike Dallas with a system/ staff / team in place for Dak to drop into. If you want to compare the last 18 years " 2k Era " the Eagles and Giants have been the Kings of the NFCE. That's for those that are just hating or in denial . The Eagles were in playoffs 11 out of 18 seasons which included 6 NFCCG and 2 SBs , Giants have been to post season 8 out of 18 but with 3 Sbs appearances. Im sure I dont have to remind what the COwboys have done in recent Era , but at least you are a head of the Skins. Its sad though because Dallas has some very talented teams though out this era and a few times should of made it to the SB .... Owner/GM and Coaching is what holds back Dallas.

Our starters vs their starters.....................37-9 Phillly

Our starters vs their practice squad...........6-0 Dallas

Have we closed the gap.............NO, NO, and NO

On paper we should be better than last year in the o line and at the defensive back end.

Don’t forget we revamped the backend of our defense last year and then the rooks missed most training camp, esp auwuzie. The experience alone should help with this group. We were counting on Nolan Carroll last year.
Hopefully the kris Richard hype is real and actionable on the field.

The linebacker group comes down to health. Health as in how many games will lee play and how much improvement can we expect from jaylon.
Expecting LVE to step in day one and give us more than hitch is optimistic.
Now maybe by the end of the year and into the following years he should be an upgrade from hitchens.
The D line is deeper than last year but I’m not sure how that will play out.
Will Taco continue to show improvement?
Will we get 16 games from Irving and dlaw?
Is Brian Price healthy and ready?(Yes we missed him when he was injured)
That said and like others have mentioned, I don’t think the eagles are the class of the NFC and I don’t think they repeat
Not trying to derail the thread, since this is about the eagles, but take a look at the Skins depth a DT.

Daron Payne
Ziggy Hood
Tim Settle
Phil Taylor

The East is quickly becoming a very tough division to run against.

NO!!!

I can't read thru the entire thread, but IMO, the perceived "gap" is what Dallas made it. their issues between Zeke being there, not being there, then being there, not being there, then finally being gone must have messed with the psyche of the team; then the injuries caused issues (see: T.Smith); I am only talking about players (coaching gaps certainly exist); I don't think the gap was all that bad, and now with what Dallas has added, the gap is a mental thing - 2018 has the potential to be a very nice year for the Cowboys of Dallas

The gap was not closed. If they somehow overtake the Eagles, it will be due to Super Bowl slump/hangover rather than anything the team did to compete.

When all is said and done, the teams are pretty equal............then there's the coaching issue.
Agreed Sarge pretty close but I still have to give the Eagles an edge with the depth they have . If Dak went down we don't have near as good a backup at the most important position as they do . TE has also become an advantage for them as well as the interior of the Dline and Safety

And yea I hate giving the Eagles any credit but I have been in denial too long . Eagles suffered all the same player injuries that we did and handled it better . Facts are they blew our doors off and we need to catch up . The NFL just dose not seem to be a process friendly place
