Have we improved the pass rush?

We have improved the passrush because we got rid of Mo, Carr, Wilcox, and Church - players that can't cover or stay healthy. We replaced them with DBs that break to the ball well, athletic and are ball hawks that can cover tightly either man to man or zone. Teams won't have the luxury of completing passes as easy as they did last year. Thus this will improve our pass rush and our turnover ratio. Were already seeing it in camp.
New for Dallas,:yourock:young DB's that get Turnovers :yourock:

I would expect guys like Lawrence and Irving to be better in a contract year with more league experience. This is it for them to cash in and would expect both will be motivated.

Collins had an excellent rookie season and reports have been he has looked great while on the field. His play is likely to continue to improve.

In the off-season we lost McClain and Jack Crawford. They were replaced with Taco, Paea, Moore, and a returning Tapper. Jaylon Smith was also an excellent rusher at Notre Dame and if he returns to atleast 85% of what his potential was he's going to add another dynamic.

This is all of course on paper, but we should be an improved unit that was 13th in sacks last season.

Stephen said this was offseason priority number one. We added Taco, D. Moore, Paea, and have a healthy Tapper. The suspensions suck. But looking at week 5, when we are past them and full strength, do we think our pass rush versus Rodgers will be appreciably better? And for remainder of the year?
Ooh... Paea is on the team? I like him in a Marinelli scheme. He's a shooter, not a 2 gapper.

Definitely not. And at this point, with the suspensions you could say it has gotten worse.

Bottom line...

I think by the end of the season we'll be thinking that this is the best defense the Cowboys have had since 2009.

Now will it be good enough?

Don't know.

But it'll be better than what we've seen in several seasons.

My predicting crutch is always divide the wins and losses by mid-season 4-4.
That gives the suspended and rookie players time to get game conditioned.
The secondary is inspiring and the defensive line has added experience and rookies.
I think we're a better team then last years 13-3 team.

Schedule schmedule you play who they put in front of you.

No. We're relying on unproven guys to play meaningful snaps. Especially with Irving out. Compare our front seven to other legit contenders. When all the money is on the table, we stand little chance versus aaron rodgers. At least the secondary got younger/better. One thing at a time i suppose.

Myself, I'll wait until we play preseason and some actual regular season games 1st before I say what is or isn't.

Yes.

I'm not worried about suspensions. In fact I like getting a fresh player back after 4 weeks and I like being able to hold on to an extra player or two for the first few weeks.

Taco is underrated by fans/media.

I saw some video of practice the other day and I saw an incredibly quick DE. I had to look at the roster to see that #99 is Tapper.

Side note: Tapper has the fastest 40 of any DL over 270 pounds in the history of the NFL draft. Maybe the fastest of any 270+ player. I saw this statement somewhere and I can't find any evidence to dispute it.

They have good depth on the DL now. DT Collins may become a super star. He even gives Zack Martin trouble in practice.

When healthy Crawford might be the best run-stopping 4-3 DE in the league. That allows them to use other guys as situational pass rushers.

DLaw has decent talent if he is healthy.

Irving is the wildcard that can dominate but the Cowboys don't have to rely on him. They can use him when he's "on" and limit his snaps if when he's not.

Moore is another wildcard that was really good at one time and has not lost any physical ability since then. His recent interview was impressive.

Mayowa had really good numbers in terms of sacks/pressure per snap played last season. They actually benched him because of run defense issues early in the season, but he corrected his technique and came back better.

Paea is the prototype Marinelli 1-tech. He has almost 3-tech quickness to go with his 1-tech power.

Of course you think it's worse.

Because it is. What did we add to the team who wasnt here last year?

A healthy Tapper and Taco. One is a rookie and will fail to make much of an impact because of it. Tapper even worse. HE is a rookie that hasnt played football in a year. And he has a problem back. Now what have we lost?

Our best chance at an improved pass rush is Irvin and he is suspended the first 4 games. He will come back rusty and appears already to be unmotivated. Will probably be out of shape and pull a hammy. Gregory has not shot because he is gone the whole year. Two good DT's left in FA and were replaced with one guy......Pea. A cast off veteran journeyman.

So by all means go ahead and make a case for improvement. And please dont tell me internal improvement with standard guys.

LOL.....suspensions dont count. LOL Sure, whatever you say. Name a few guys that came back from suspension recently that set the pass rush in fire?

PAEA is a journeyman wash out castoff. If we get anything from him on the line its gravy. Certainly wont be better then the two guys that left. And he plays 1 tech where all they are asked to do is stop the run and take on the double team. Pass rush from Paea? Talk about a stretch.

Roy, I'm not even going to waste my time because you love playing the negative game. If someone handed you a gold bar you complain about it being too heavy.

If you were more even-handed about things would be one thing... But in your world it's all negative all the time.

No thanks.

If the secondary has improved the pass rush will get better by default..the only way I see improvement happens there. There is no one that is going to make the team appreciably better up front but on the backend if things improve with the influx of young talent and exodus of scrubs...it might be the only hope for the pass rush this year. The suspensions are going to hurt.
