Have you jumped to these conclusions?

One man does amount to "some" OL depth. The point was people were panicking because we had NO line depth. Free has proven that wrong.

Holland doesn't make the active roster because he only plays guard. We have to have a center backup in the active roster mix, and then because Proctor also plays guard, we have to have a tackle backup.

Not sure why Preston has beaten out Proctor for the center/guard backup role. Might just be because Dallas knows what it has in Proctor ... although that could be a good reason to go with Preston.
Columbo is injured. We currently have no OL depth.

Must be watching a different team. Holland played well once he was inserted into the lineup at guard last year. Proctor hasn't done anything to show that he's horrible at center. He was terrible at guard.

I'd be surprised if you found many on this board who would agree with you. I just remember too many bullfighting moves by Holland and too many bad snaps by Proctor.

People were saying it back when Colombo wasn't injured, which was the point. Free stepped in and proved to be some OL depth.

I still believe we also have some with Holland, but would be wary if we had to play McQuistan or Proctor. Preston would be a wait-and-see.

I think you'd find quite a few who feel that Holland held his own when he was in there. And the bad snaps by Proctor occurred in the preseason and appeared to be a problem primarily with Jon Kitna.

My point is we have the same problem we have when everyone complained about the offensive line. We are still one offensive line injury away from complete disaster. The drop off from the guys currently starting and their backups on the offensive line is staggering.

This is the same conclusion jumped to about Free, and it could be just as wrong, which I think it is concerning Holland at least.

1, 3, 5 and 6 are all me. Good post. At first I was worried you were merely calling out every fan who has been wrong on something, which I typically frown about. :) But I think the point you raise is very valid.

We have every right to be critical. I think asking questions provokes good discussion and is a good thing. But we should also recognize that it's our opinion, and could very well be proven very, very wrong in a short matter of time.

I was definitely one of the people who feared our offensive line backups. I'm also concerned we don't have anyone beyond Free, but who knows. Holland has a solid pedigree in this league, just not here. Procter seems like a journeyman, albeit somewhat serviceable.

Anyway, my question in this debate has always been this: How many teams in the league can withstand injuries at guard, tackle and/or center without batting an eye?

I just find it hard to believe that there are many teams carrying eight starting-caliber linemen. Washington, for instance, barely entered the season with five.

Nah. I've been wrong too many times to call anybody else out about it.

Now, the one time I'm right, watch out 'cause I'm bragging.

True. Not many teams can withstand losing more than a couple of linemen at best.

I think some of the concern is with Dallas developing linemen to eventually replace its aging starters. But I think that will take care of itself. Either the Cowboys will develop them or Jerry Jones will buy him some. Like us, he would prefer to draft them, but I'm not worried about him taking care of it one way or the other.

Not to mention the team's QB came out and said he thought Austin was that good, and the team's owner and GM was ridiculed for months for saying the same things to the press. But yeah, other than that, anyone who thought Austin would be this good based on the sample size was lying.
