Heard this on the radio about Dan Quinn and penalties

It depends on the penalty. Offsides (especially lining up in the neutral zone) is just a stupid penalty, even for an aggressive defense. Holding, when it's nowhere near the play is stupid. Hands to the face, late hits, illegal hits...all avoidable, without sacrificing aggression.

While I agree aggressiveness can lead to more penalties, It's not that simple to just make a choice between the two. You ideally want both if that is your style of play. You will give up some calls due to the trade off for being aggressive, but you need to look at each individual penalty to determine what the cause was. You can't just look at the total # of penalties and excuse it because you play an aggressive style of defense

I didn't say excuse it, but it didn't seem to hurt the seahawks.

It’s a long known fact that Seattle’s approach was “play physical and commit illegal contact/hold often” and just date the refs to call it over and over again.

it worked for them. I have no problem with the defense being aggressive.

It was done for you a few posts up. Most penalties were on the OL and offense.

The #1 most called NFL Penalty is Offensive Holding. #2 is Offensive False Starts. It’s a huge drop off after that. I don’t think Dan has anything to do with our frequent penalties in those categories, but the coincidence of Dan being around these high marks is interesting.

Dallas will always get far too many BS flags at the most inopportune times, in order to negate a big play on either side of the ball.

I roughly got 72 offensive penalties and 57 defensive penalties and there were some other penalties that could go either way and some special teams penalties

Bill Parcells I believed used to say that when it comes to penalties either you're being coached that way or it's being allowed to happen.

Either way it's the coaches fault.

I say keep being aggressive. I'd rather lose with aggressive play and knowing the guys are trying. We've lost for 20+ years with lackadaisical effort. So if I'm going to lose I'd rather lose with aggressive play than reactive players.

You can play aggressive yet still disciplined, there is a fine line but that is what separates the seasoned smart vet vs learning rooks.

No it does not, the NFL is really killing teams now for being aggressive.
Look at the bogus roughing the QB calls we got last game.

they were not bogus lol.
Basham led with crown of helmet to the qb's mid section.
williams was late and sort of lowered his helmet as he hit the qb. and it took the qb off his feet for a bad landing.
The qb is most defenseless as he throws the ball.

There is no need to hit qb's after they throw the ball, unless you cant beat them with that qb playing.(remember the bounty bowl playoff games where saints did exactly that to farve and warner)
much better to try and block that pass, than go for the useless hit.

This being a PS game made it more silly, to try and hurt some poor bkup trying to make the team. # 11 is in mid 30's trying to earn the bkup
job, so I dont approve of late hits like those in a ps game.

This also comes back on coaches, who are not teaching these guys how to play smart.
