Heath Ledger... Oscar Thread

I think its some sort of anti comicbook movie type of thing. Slumdog...seriously? Does that movie deserve these awards when the cinematography and score of The Dark Knight were absolutely fantastic?

probably

Slumdog was the feel-good movie of the year

they tend to get overrated

LOL Slumwhore gets best director? That fool has an Oscar and Christopher Nolan doesnt? My god, this is soooo rigged.

Queen Latifah sang the song to the people that passed away this year and as usual did a great job.
Oh ok. I don't watch the Oscars. I've tried a couple times, but they bore me to tears. I guess if I watched more movies, it might matter.

I check out the dresses the actress wear online, but that's about it.

This is the worst Academy Awards I can remember...

The self-importance and lack of talent is amazing... a very bad year for these putzes...

esp. when Paul Bart the MallCop is #1 for like 4 weeks

and is STILL in theatres

Kate Winslet won the award she had deserved all her life.

Amazing woman, Im in love.

IMO that has more to do with the scheduling of the releases. The movie companies want the bragging rights. They don't want to compete like they used to. You'll never see two or three big movies released at the same time.

She looked pretty good tonight too.

Everytime you post I always picture Quenn Latifah's voice when reading your posts. :D

No one could EVER play the Joker again in any Batman production.

THAT'S what Ledger did. His thing can't be duplicated. Take it from me. I have a Batman Tattoo on my left leg. This guy, if he were alive, could do another 2-3 movies and STILL make it stick.

After this, it's the end of any serious Joker part in any Batman deal forever. It's the standard that can't be duplicated. Batman folks like me and a million other have been waiting all our lives for someone to finally "get it" about "The Joker".

Nicholson? A joke. Not even close. The Joker is a lot closer to Ted Bundy than he is to Pee Wee Hermann.

Anyway, the Joker is dead. Long live the Joker......................

Nice post Lewpac. I feel the same way.

The Reader sucked, but this is like a lifetime achievement award for Kate Winslet. She deserved it for Eternal Sunshine, but I am more than happy to see her win tonight. As I said before, amazing women amazing actress.

I still dont get half of the Slumdog awards.

I'm not a big fan of Slumdog, but don't you think you should see it first before deciding whether or not you 'get' it winning awards?

Perhaps, but its a movie about Indians on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. i think ive seen this song and dance before, and there is NO way that the cinematography or score matches up with The Dark Knight.

Why all the hate for Slumdog? I agree The Dark Knight was by far the best movie this year, and to me, the best movie I've seen in a good number of years, but Slumdog was good too. It's easily in my top 5 for 2008. If there is any movie to attack it's Benjamin Button. It had good makeup sure, but as a movie it was average at best, it might make my top 50 for the year. No business being in there. I haven't seen The Reader but everyone seems to say it was pretty bad outside of Kate.

Spot on post. Button was vastly overrated, and The Reader was extremely mediocre. I have no clue how it pulled a best director nom, let alone a best picture. Absolutely nuts that they'd pass over Aronofsky/The Wrestler or Nolan/TDK for that tripe.

As for the Oscars tonight, they were okay. I enjoyed Jackman's opening number, but the rest of the song and dance I could've done without (especially incorporating the High School Musical kids http://s16.***BLOCKED***/albums/b26/AcesPT/th_suicide.gif). Latifah nailed that song for the In Memoriam portion, but I hate the way they handled it. I prefer the full screen, played with bits of dialogue from the actors' performances rather than these moving shots from Latifah to the screen, half the time I couldn't even make out the actors' names. Also, to omit Carlin was pretty crappy. I know he wasn't a great actor, but if some publicist that no one outside of Hollywood knows gets memorialized I don't see the harm in including Carlin.

The Pineapple Express bit was hilarious, Tina Fey and Steve Martin were great together and Jack Black was hilarious. The whole league of extraordinary actors thing they had going when presenting best acting awards was kind of cool, but I'd rather have seen portions of the actors' performances.

I was really disappointed that Rourke didn't get the win. I was really pulling for him, and I really thought he deserved it over Penn. His acceptance speech would've been money, rather than hearing Penn preach to us.

I muted the sound after Penn won. :laugh2:

Actually it's a little deeper than that. I think that's as shallow a comment as someone saying "The Dark Knight is a comic book movie, I think I've seen that song and dance before." Again, I preferred The Dark Knight (and to bring it back to the original topic, I'm happy Ledger won because he deserved it.) But I make that judgment based on seeing both movies.

LMAO.

Here's a word for you: prejudicial.

And no, I'm not talking about being racist. I'm talking about "pre-judging", thus the word.

I loved "The Dark Knight". I also loved "Slumdog Millionare". Heath deserved his award whether alive or dead, and so did everyone who received one for Slumdog.
